“You see that ball (Drew) drove off the Monster?” asked outfield reserve Mark Kotsay. “Flipping the wrists, man. That’s a professional hitter.”

he's gotten on base in 19 of his last 33 ABs

Does that surprise you?

Not only that, he's reaching base nearly 3 times per game against the Yanks this year, also has nearly 1 XBH per game against them.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but for me, JD "Awesome" Drew is money well spent.

I watched the game in a bar in the heart of NYC. It seemed that only the Red Sox fans were watching. There was not an ounce of interest or excitement by Yankee fans even when they took the lead. A funny thing happened in the 8th. When Drew got the hit that cut the Yankee lead to 1, a lot of people got up and left. I asked one of the guys (Yankee fan) why he was leaving. He answered that he had had enough of this s***. He didn't even seem to be watching the game the entire night. I guess that was the case with a lot of them. They were watching the game in an almost surreptitious manner, and when they saw the big burn coming, they bolted for the door like rats deserting a sinking ship. I thought it was interesting how several years of failure and a couple of Red Sox championships have modified the behavior of Yankee fans. They are now very subdued, almost meek in the presence of Red Sox fans. It is a pleasant change from their obnoxious days. I don't let them forget that the Yankees are our bitches now and then I watch them run away with their tails between their legs. Good times! Good times!

Also' date=' it's the fault of the umps and the rain. It's a tainted win. We're really 7-1 against NYY.[/quote']

Sometimes I feel I've got to

Complain away I've got to

Whine all day

about the calls the umps make for me

That ball was fair

But he didn't care

And I've lost the fight

Now I toss and turn, I can't sleep at night

Once I cheered for you

Now I'll run from you

This tainted win you've given

I give you all a fan could give you

Take my tears and that's not nearly all

Oh...tainted game

Tainted game

Now I know I've got to

Complain away I've got to

Whine away

The umps were biased

To make things right

For the Sox all night

And the way they played

But I'm sorry Yanks don't play that way

Once I cheered for you

Now I'll run from you

This tainted win you've given

I give you all a fan could give you

Take my tears and that's not nearly all

Oh...tainted game

Tainted game

Don't touch me please

I cannot stand the way you tease

I love you though you haven't won yet

At least not in nine years

Tainted game, tainted game(x2)

Touch me baby, tainted game(x2)

Tainted game(x3)

With apologies to The Clash.

Right, because a group of guys in bar truly represents an entire fan base. You may have witnessed this several times, I don't know, but just because so random fans in a bar act a certain way does not mean that is how the entire fan base acts.

its called a sample size. a group of several yankee fans watching a baseball game in a bar in the heart of NYC most likely represent the majority of yankee fans

This is not really worth arguing, but I disagree with that. It's one bar.

You may have witnessed this several times, I don't know, but just because so random fans in a bar act a certain way does not mean that is how the entire fan base acts.[/quote']I am noticing a pattern among Yankee fans that has been developing over a period of years. I live in NY, grew up in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan. I have been around Yankee fans all of my life. I know more Yankee fans than Sox fans. More of my family and friends root for the Yankees than the Sox. They are becoming meek from the continued failure. The boisterousness and bravado are almost completely gone. In April when I stopped at a rest stop on the way to Boston, I saw a Yankee fan all decked out in Jersey and hat. The Yanks had already dropped the first two games of the series. I asked the Yankee fan if he was going to buy a broom for the sweep. He gave me a sheepish grin and put his head down. That is not the reaction that I would have gotten at the end of the 90's. Not at all. Bitter and beaten, that pretty much describes the community of Yankee fans.

Well, all fans are different. Maybe the ones who acted very cocky when the Yankees were winning championships fall under you definition, but the ones who were just good fans the whole time continue to just be good fans.

It has a big crowd and the crowd had always been a Yankee crowd that followed every Yankee game very closely and loudly. Not the other night. Was it an abberation? If they had been playing KC, I would not have given it much thought, but they were playing the Sox for first place. It was a sign of the times. Good times for Sox fans.

Francesa said it best today on WFAN:

  • "The Yankees have played 11 games against elite teams (Phils and Sox), and they are 1-10."

  • "I don't believe in my heart that they are a special team right now. On this date, I don't think they can play that type of baseball in a situation where every at-bat and every out matters."

  • "When the Red Sox need a great at bat or play in the field, they get it. Pedroia's 10-pitch at bat symbolizes the difference between the Red Sox and the Yankees."
