I wouldn't push Tazawa too hard. I see him as injury insurance next year with maybe a midseason callup when the first thing goes wrong.

I really like Tazawa's chances to be a solid middle of the rotation guy next year. Seems to be quite the opposite of Dice-K. A big strikeout guy but not the big walk guy.

I'd say he's got a nonzero chance of a September callup. He is on a big league deal after all, and he doesn't look like the minors are a mystery to him.

Also, Theo doesn't seem to believe that pitchers need a long stay in AAA (remember Masterson had his first big league start before his first Pawtucket start) to develop so if there's a need, he could come along pretty fast.

High-A to Double-A is by far the biggest jump in the minors. Once players have success at AA then they are pretty much getting very close to being MLB ready. AAA isn't a whole lot more advanced and is mostly comprised of your Kotsay type players (AAAA guys with MLB experience) while AA contains the Reddick types.

For pitchers especially, Masterson/Papelbon/Lester/Buchholz/Bard all pitched less than 50 innings before getting the callup. If there was space Bowden probably could/would have been up in May

Tazawa might fill in Masterson's role soon. If Smoltz stays in the rotation that is.

But he is tearing it up in the minors. The only thing that is going to hold him back is an innings cap.

Looking forward I also see Tazawa as being a name of interest as a trading chip in a possible Hernendez deal.

Too bad they didn't bring up Michael Bowden instead of Tazawa.

I don't know if there are any statistics as to which team wins in late innings, but I suspect it might be usually the home team. Tazawa's debut was a real downer for us.

I thought he looked pretty good for his first ML outing against the best lineup in the Majors... He threw too many pitches and gave up too many flyballs for my liking, but he pitched 2 innings and A-rod just got the best of him.

I was impressed with Tazawa. I just hope he's not scarred for the rest of his career by that A-Bomb, from A-Rod. Tough, tough situation to come into in a big game.

He gave up a few cheap hits and a few where there was good contact, but overall I'm still very hopeful about his future.

He certainly wasnt scared. But NYY hit the piss out of him and he was lucky to only give up 2 runs.

-Matsui hit a hard line drive out to CF (out 1)

-Posada got a good line drive hit to right

-Cano got a bitch slap base hit

-Hinske hit the ball hard, Drew caught it (out 2)

-Cabrera struck out

-Jeter got a bitch flyball

-Damon popped out on a bunt (out 1)

-Teixeira struck out swinging (out 2)

-A-Rod hit an A BOMB (game over)

I admit there were a few hard hit balls, but the Yankee win was virtually inevitable given the group of cripples the Sox were sending to the plate. It was only a matter of time.

I was impressed by the way he went after Teixeira, I don't think many young pitchers would do that in that situation in their first appearance

With the situation the kid was brought in' date=' he did as good as you could expect.[/quote']

Really?

1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 HR?

I like the kid, and think he has potential, but let's not make it out to be some great outing. Like Jacko said, this game should have been lost in the 14th.

Thank you, Defender of Jacko.

Would you please and at least try to take circumstances into account?

I'm pretty sure most people (you and Jacko included) would have s*** their pants and walked the park if your debut occured in that situation.

His ERA in his good initial debut was 10.56' date=' his WHIP in his good initial debut was 2.35, and his BAA in his good initial debut was .444. Sound good?[/quote']

Had it been a Yankee prospect.

You'd be saying so many positive things it'd seem you woke up with a rainbow stuck up your ass.

Also, I did not see the game. I only saw clips. So you can comment on his stuff and his location and if those were good, then okay. All I can comment on are the results and the results sucked.

Actually' date=' not really. Have proof?[/quote']

You really wanna make me got through the archives?

Admit it, fanboy.
