Peavy Traded to White Sox, pending Peavy's approval

Solid move by Chicago. Their starting pitching surely needed a little something. They've still got some holes of course but in that division, who doesn't?

MLB.com is reporting that Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda are at least part of the package headed the other way

I'm curious to see how Peavy handles the switch to the AL. He's benefitted from a weak-hitting division and a pitcher's park as his career road splits aren't nearly as good as his home splits.

Not sure I like that deal for San Diego. One great pitcher for two pretty good ones is a move that can go terribly wrong. (see: Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr. for Pedro Martinez)

According to Peavy's agent, he still prefers NL and may not approve trade.

The agent for San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy expressed doubt Thursday that his client is ready to sign off on a proposed trade to the Chicago White Sox.

Agent Barry Axelrod told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Peavy has a "strong preference'' to stay in the National League. That preference, along with Peavy's fondness for his new home in Southern California, could be impediments to a proposed deal that would send the pitcher to Chicago.

Awesome move by Kenny Williams. Had to be done. The team is stagnant right now. Approve the f***ing trade, Peavy! Makes Jim Hendry look bad for not closing the deal in the offseason. And I hate Jim Hendry, so that's a good thing.

I thought you were a Cub fan.

I have a feeling this will backfire for the White Sox. Petco Park is a f***ing cave, US Cellular edges on Arlington territory. Then there's the whole NL to AL thing.

I can certainly see the rationale behind it for Chicago, but I don't think it will work out that great.

I was raised a Cubs fan, but I've gradually become more of a Sox fan over the years, especially when I realized that a lot of my favorite players were on the Sox.

You know who I'm surprised at that hasn't made a run at Peavy? The Mets and the Phillies. Either of those teams could lock up the division with Peavy.

Philly would be the same situation as the White Sox, minus the change of leagues.

Sox are not interested in Peavy.

I know that and I'm kinda glad but he makes such a stink about wanting to stay in the NL but apparently would come to Boston

which is the whole point

It's the NL. Citi is a pitcher's park though. I know it sounds risky, but I'd trade Reyes if I was the Mets.

The only way the Mets make that deal is if they part with Fernando Martinez, and they are apparently completely unwilling to do so. The Mets have now made two trades over the last 16 months that involved a large amount of prospects and personell for 2 players. Their prospect levels are barren. John Niese is the biggest pitcher left, and I dont think he's good enough to be a centerpiece of a deal. Especially when you compare what the White Sox were offering. Their package was impressive

The Padres are looking to rebuild and get less expensive. Reyes is already in his arbitration yrs and is going to be very expensive very soon. I dont think they would want Reyes in that respect, cause Reyes will be offered a massive contract when he hits FA and it wont come from SD.

Needless to say, the Mets did very well in depleting their prospects for some guy...

True. I overlooked that part. However, Reyes would also be a nice chip to trade. However, I stand corrected.

While the Sox don't need Peavy and I certainly wouldn't want him coming over here to be an "ace", I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox replace Penny with him. I mean, he couldn't possibly make our rotation any worse. The price tag, though, would be the problem, and I don't think I would want to be paying him $12 mil a year.

I think Peavy really screws over the Padres with his NL only demands. Yes, he's willing to probably go to Boston or NY, but those teams likely won't give up the prospects it would take and they don't want to pay the salary for what amounts to a solid #2 pitcher. It would be much better for the Padres to be able to trade him to a team the simply won't see for a few years.

Big blunder by the Padres FO to go this far and have it not work.

Yea easily but the Mets have little to nothing to offer.

They will never part with Reyes and Wright.

No surprise that he said no to the trade he's always said he wants to stay in the National League as soon as they announced the trade I didn't expect him to say yes to it.
