Figgins for Lowell.. hahaha

For some reason after that Angels series, I really like Figgins and I am pretty sure he is a FA after this year is over.

But with that said, I really like Mikey Lowell.

That and speedy singles hitters tend to decline very suddenly. He'll go from awesome to useless in about 5 seconds not long after he's signed.

Oh come on! Haven't you seen all his power? No I am kidding.

I say V-Mart. I'm fine with him as catcher so long as he can hit, which he has shown he can do. Maybe pick someone else up so he can soplit time there. But please don't bring Mr. Varitek "DP" back.

I'm not counting on Mauer before I know how the Yankees are going to play their long term plans behind the plate. Even if they are not, themselves, desperate for a catcher, NWIH they let the Sox get Mauer.

You mean like he signed Tex?

Tex is exactly the reason Theo will sign Mauer at all costs.

Oh, and you're gonna start with this again?

Srsly?

Start what? You mean advertise to the entire free world that we have Tex and let the Yankees have him?

No - I am over that - just don't want to see that again.

I agree. Mauer going to the Yanks seems all too easy for me to see... Posada won't last forever either... the Yanks could use Mauer.

Holy s*** what the f*** is it with people talking like this is a small market team?

The Sox can sign whoever the f*** they want if they stop being pussies, something that's very likely after the Tex fiasco.

If there's any time for the Sox to flex their financial muscle (which they really haven't done since Drew' date=' Lugo and Dice), it's for Joe Mauer.[/quote']

If the Bankee$ don't get him first.

Lat's face a simple fact here.

The Red Sox are a richest team. One of the richest in the world in fact.

The Yankees are about twice as rich as we are.

We can make a huge offer for any player we want at any time.

The Yankees can improve on that offer if they decide to. Also at any time

Those are facts.

Even if we are a rich team -- and we are -- no one wins matching checks with the Yankees on a player they decide they want. Teixeira's destination was determined not by those negotiations, but by the gaping Yankee hole at first.

That doesn't mean we can't get Mauer. It does mean that if we don't want to run the very real risk of not actually having a shot at him, we will have to do something to even those odds -- such as deal talent to the Twins to get him and thus have an exclusive resigning window.

Can we not improve that offer as well?

What about the Montero factor?

What about growing some balls?

Those are 2 facts and a need.

Can we not improve that offer as well?

We can make the best sane offer in the world. If the Yankees want the player enough, they will counter with an insane offer. (see Rodriguez, Alex). Simply put at some point we reach the level where we still need to try and be at least somewhat fiscally responsible for the benefit of the long term health of the franchise. For all realistic purposes the Yankees really don't.

What about the Montero factor?

You think the presence if a 19 year old kid with defensive questions at catcher will stop them from acquiring the best available player at the position? Heck, would it stop us?

Besides, Montero can back Mauer up.

His bat will back up no one.

Stop it.

Just stop with the inferiority complex.

Jesus Christ.
