I agree. People are quick to jump all over Wake when he gets spanked (about 50% of the time). But when he's on' date=' he is pretty much lights out. That's the way it usually is with knuckle ballers.[/quote']

Just for kicks, let's take a look at his games from 2008, classifying them into three categories (Great, Solid/Good, Mediocre, Bad--they're subjective terms, but whatever)

Great

5/6 @ Detroit: 8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

5/28 @ Seattle: 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K

8/1 vs. Oakland: 6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

8/6 @ Kansas City: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

9/12 vs. Toronto: 8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

9/28 vs. New York: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Total: 11 G, 76 1/3 IP, 38 H, 8 ER, 12 BB, 59 K (6-2, 0.94 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, 4.92 K/BB )

Solid/Good

6/20 vs. St. Louis: 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

7/6 @ New York: 6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

8/31 @ Chicago: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Total: 8 G, 50 1/3 IP, 44 H, 20 ER, 24 BB, 28 K (1-3, 3.58 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 1.17 K/BB )

Mediocre

4/20 vs. Texas: 8 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

4/25 @ Tampa Bay: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 1 K

5/17 vs. Milwaukee: 5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

7/20 @ Los Angeles: 7 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

8/26 @ New York: 5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

9/23 vs. Cleveland: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Total: 6 G, 37 1/3 IP, 39 H, 22 ER, 9 BB, 21 K (3-1, 5.31 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 2.33 K/BB )

Bad

5/11 @ Minnesota: 2 2/3 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

5/23 vs. Oakland: 5 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

7/26 vs. New York: 5 1/3 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

9/6 @ Texas: 1 1/3 IP, 4 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 0 K

9/17 @ Tampa Bay: 2 1/3 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Total: 5 G, 16 2/3 IP, 33 H, 33 ER, 14 BB, 11 K (0-5, 17.78 ERA, 2.81 WHIP, 0.79 K/BB )

So, it isn't as frequent that he's really terrible (17% of games) as that he's really great (37%). I was really surprised at the WHIP figures in the second and third sections of games, as his WHIP was .09 points lower in his mediocre starts as opposed to his good starts. In general, he pitches well enough to keep the team in the game, provided the offense is normal.

The redsox site says that it was "Completed Early" so I don't think it's been suspended or anything. I'm waiting for an article to be posted to tell me if they've already postponed tonight's game or if they're going to try and see how the rain goes.
