Jones works around the error fine, gets 2 ground outs, what should have been a third, and a routine fly ball.

It's not conclusive, but it's a nice start.

There were some very encouraging performances this series. Lester' date=' Ellsbury, Lowell, etc all are looking better.[/quote']

...and Pedroia and Papi today.

Indeed. The jury is still out though.

Ortiz interview on EEI. "Feels like I been on vacation... been working on my mechanics..."

Also feels like everything's out of order [paraphrasing]

"When you start the season and don't get many AB and aren't producing, more people notice because it's at the beginning of the season."

"The good thing is we been winning or that would drive me more crazy."

Says fan support helps keep him going.

"When anybody gets into a slump, we definitely worry too much about it."

"I'm one of those guys who likes to stay positive."

"My teammates know that I'll be back... I'll be there."

-- all from the Ortiz interview.

And am I correct in reading the box score' date=' Papi got a triple?!?[/quote']

Stand up triple at that.

Bounced off the far right of the monstah and got away from Pie.

Seeing is believing. I don't care that he had a good game today at the hands of a joke pitching staff, I'll start believing when this becomes regular again.

I'd be shocked if he got 35+. He got 23 last year and 35 in 2007' date=' and he's on the downswing in terms of career. I think Ortiz, Youk and Bay all hover around 25-30 for the team lead.[/quote']He was in jured last season. In 2007, he hit .332 with a .445 OBP and 1.066 OPS with 52 doubles-- hardly the sign of a decline. Each of those statistics was an improvement over 2006.

Apparently Jeff Bailey was pulled from the PawSox lineup shortly after the Baldelli injury signifying a possible roster move

Bailey and Carter as the back up OFers? If one of the starting OFers goes down, the OF defense will take a big hit.

Good game today..

Masterson looked good.

Bullpen was good again

Offense looked great

and nice to see Papi have two extra base hits and best of all a triple!

Great game by Pedroia. Also encouraging to see Ellsbury get 3 hits.

Hopefully Baldelli injury isn't serious.

I didn't get to tune in until later' date=' what exactly happened to Baldelli?[/quote']

He was on third and twisted as he got out of the way of a line drive, doing something to his hamstring in the process

According to here' date=' Rocco is on the DL and Bailey was recalled.[/quote']The second of the offseason acquisitions of the lame and infirm to hit the DL. Smoltz was a give when he was signed. The question is when will Penny and Saito go down and who will go first.

well, what the hell is the alternative? Wilkerson retired and Kotsay, Lugo and Van Every are still injured. Do you call up Chip Ambres instead?

Drew can't play every day because of the risk of him breaking down.
