Why would the Tigers give us Miggy for David Ortiz???!!!

Who the f*** said anything about Ortiz in the deal? Not me.

I am sure the Tigers would want Bard/Buchholz/ and Bowden or Lars...if not all 4.

Anderson and Buchholz for a start, probably another big name Boston prospect as well (possibly Lin?) before we even get the Tigers talking Cabrera.

Not even, distinct possibility that, due to Detroit being in the eye of the economic shitstorm, they'll have to give Cabrera away. Anderson, Bowden, and a more average prospect might do it.

But then again, if Cabrera's on the block, I doubt it takes long before Hanky Panky finds out and offers his entire farm system plus two of their MiL stadiums and a collection of seats he stole from the old Yankee stadium.

At least three of them IMO.

For the sake of discussion, would we then move Lowell in the middle of the season?

You were talking about replacing him, I figured you meant he was part of the deal. With Ortiz having 3 years left of his contract, they cant just eat it up and release him

Bard, Buchholz, Bowden and Lars gone? As much as I like Miguel Cabrera, thats too expensive of a deal for Theo to give up

I pray you are right. The thought of Miggy hitting in Fenway makes me giddy!

I'd rather go for a player that doesn't instantly screw over our ability to build from within for the next few years. Not that I wouldn't give up a big package for Cabrera, Cabrera's definitely worth the price tag, but a midseason deal would be bound to be an overpay unless the Tigers are worse off than we've heard so far. (if I was Dombrowski. Cabrera is literally the last player I deal).

I wouldn't be against picking up salary and maybe trading Daeges to pick up Carlos Guillen. He could potentially be a very useful switch-hitting IF/OF piece.

Make Lowell the main DH, have Ortiz fight for his ABs. Unless someone comes to us and makes a damn good offer for Lowell.

im not sure why Drew wasn't brought in instead of Carter

I'm fine with it. Drew's gonna need regular rest to stay healthy all year. I'm cringing a little at the possibilities inherent in Carter in right field but if it means Drew misses fewer days down the road I'm OK with the gamble.

Owed $55 million over the next three seasons. I guess they could keep him and put a team of minor leaguers around him though to make up the difference.

Unless the motor industry stops s***ing the bed.

I love Carlos Guillen...but between him/Drew/and Baldelli....there would be too many nights we would have to play with a 23 man roster... Guillen is always missing games here and there.

That pitch to Markakis that wasn't strike 3 was in virtually the same place as Strike 3 to Carter in the last inning

Cabrera doesn't have to f*** up our future either. The reason he's even being mentioned is because the Tigers are (or will be) in a heap of financial trouble, and Cabrera is the guy making the most money on the team who would get the most appealing return. Because of Detroit being in this position, it could very well be a 'must' to trade him for a subpar package.

If our opponents decide to bid their entire farm systems for Cabrera, walk away and let them, go scoop up Holliday, Guillen, or maybe even Beltre if he's doing well.

Nice job, Justin.

Would have liked to see him get through the 6th but he's on a short count which I agree with, and he's done what was expected of him and maybe a bit more.
