Nick Green in his first game collected more hits than Lowrie had through the first 6 games. Shortstop has been a black hole since O-Cab left

And most likely continue to be unless they trade for someone who is already established at the dish.

Is there anything more tired than this argument?

This subject will only cease when the Sox have a SS that produces at a rate greater then that of O-Cab. Until then someone is going to bring it up occasionally.

That and a lot of people probably think a long the lines of(not directed at you RS, but just some fans in general), SS is one of the most important positions(maybe it's not technically, but I would imagine that's the popular assumption among the average fans of baseball) on the field, and the Red Sox are one of the biggest franchises, ergo the Sox should have a top SS playing for them. And until this happens, will most likely continue to complain about the shortcomings of the current SS.

Cabrera's really not that good. Renteria had a better 2005.

Renteria was more of an issue in the field then anything else. His bat wasn't what was predicted, but it was decent

Honestly OCab was never that good offensively outside of a couple career seasons. He was over (of really, anywhere near) an .800 OPS exactly once.

Even in '04 his cumulative numbers between Montreal and Boston rate out to an OPS of .689. That's Lugo-esque. Sure he got hot for half a season in a Red Sox uni but if we'd kept him there's a 100% chance we'd have been disappointed in him. The decision to try to upgrade that spot was the correct one.

http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/lowrie-heading-to-dl-due-to-wrist-injury/

Jed Lowrie, who has been sent back to Boston in order to undergo tests on his left wrist (the same one that suffered a non-displaced fracture last season), will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The shortstop informed team officials about discomfort in the wrist on Sunday, but expressed that he had been dealing with the issue for a couple of weeks.

Throughout the spring, there were markers of significant progress in Lowrie’s recovery from an injury that rendered him ineffective as a left-handed hitter last September and October. The 24-year-old said that his left wrist was showing nearly identical strength to his right one at the start of spring training, and his gap-to-gap power as a left-handed hitter throughout the spring suggested as much.

Stupid, stupid decision to not deal with this sooner.

Maybe, but other than dealing away Hanley what else should the Sox have done? And Hanley brought back Beckett -- I do that trade again 12 ways to Sunday.

yea, its dumb on Lowrie's part but at the same time, he probably thought to himself that had an opportunity to cement himself as the Red Sox starting shortstop because of Lugo's injury

I would assume it's more of this then anything else.

What gets me is that some are yelling for Lowrie to report a lingering injury and take time to get it right. But expect Drew to play through a herniated disk and bust his balls every time he isn't out there:dunno:

Oh well, hopefully he gets this sorted and is able to produce at the plate.

Drew makes $12 mil. You arent supposed to feel pain if you make $12 mil

I usually tend to agree with most of your opinions, but this statement is ridiculous:lol:

Should be interesting watching what Green can do. Lowrie should stay on the DL until his wrist is 100%, no reason to have it nagging all season. In a dream world we would be able to pick up hanley before the deadline :)

As far as ocab goes, I wanted him to stay. He played great when he was here, but there's no way to tell what he would have done if he stayed. With that said though it was over 4 years ago, so it's a moot point now. I always heard there was something about ocab that the players/FO didn't like.....any idea if that is true and what it might be?

Lack of discipline at the plate and a big mouth that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

That or becoming friendly with other players' wives.
