Almanzar hit #2 tonight. It's nice to see the power, but he's started the year off a little cold.

Casey Kelly pitched another 5 scoreless innings. He hasn't given a run up, yet. It will be intriguing to see how he does as a pitcher the first half of the year and then compare it to what he does as a SS the second half.

To go along with Casey Kelly...Caleb Clay who we drafted in the 1st round in 2006 has returned from injury and has posted 8 innings without giving up a run.

8 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

AP says he hit 92

That's pretty damn good, considering he probably didn't let it fly all the way.

AP said 85%

So we're talking 95, 96 at 100%?

I mean, i know that wouldn't be his average velocity, but it's really good nonetheless.

I can live with him sitting at 92

That's about where he was at pre-injury.

That's right about the velocity he needs to be effective IMHO.

Don't look now but Drive catcher Tim Federowicz is really starting to open some eyes.

The folks on the Soxprospects forum have a thread tracking his defense -- not only is "Fed-Ex" a half decent hitter, but apparently he's got the best defensive numbers of all the Sox catchers this season (albeit in the lowest level currently playing ball, but still). He's got a howitzer attached to his right shoulder and seems to call an extremely good game.

Might be time to start keeping an eye on the guy.

So is Kade Keowen (sp?).

He was an interesting pick in 2007. Big, athletic kid with raw athletic talent that could make him a star if he honed his skills. He really struggled in his draft year and last year, but he's shown some signs of life in this young season.
