Those looked like hit and runs to me' date=' Cano was swinging on stuff out of the zone. Maybe he has slid into second a couple times. But the steals I've seen him get were standing up when the pitcher had completely ignored him. And he's avoided sliding on DP balls.[/quote']

I doubt they were hit and runs for a couple of reasons. First off, it's rare to hit and run against a knuckle baller, especially with two strikes. Second, if those were hit and runs, then why wasn't the hit and run on when the count went to 3-2 on Posada? I'd be willing to bet those were straight steals.

Regardless, you definitely could be right about the fact that he is being cautious. I just don't think he is going to completely abandon sliding. He has definitely pulled up on a few DP's when he was at first, so he's being careful, but I don't necessarily think he's afraid to slide.

Yeah' date=' I'd trust Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, Penny, Smoltz/Buchholz to give my team a chance on win on a consistent basis more than I'd trust Sabathia (nothing against him), Burnett, Pettitte, Chamberlain, Wang/Aceves. Sabathia is the only member of the rotation with a WHIP under 1.38. They aren't going to get away with that all year.[/quote']

Completely agree. The Yankee rotation concerns me.

Thank god the Yankees rotation is a paper tiger. Otherwise I might be concerned about them having the same record as us.

What, do you think we're going to suddenly just pull away from them or something? They're not going away anytime soon.

I never said they'd go away, but their rotation has vastly over performed. I don't think they could possibly continue to maintain their performance.

Sabathia - 3.70 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 70.3 LOB%, 3.76 FIP

Burnett - 3.77 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 79 LOB%, 4.53 FIP

Pettitte - 4.53 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 72.5 LOB%, 4.77 FIP

Chamberlain - 4.04 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 74.2 LOB%, 4.75 FIP

Wang - 9.64 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, 53.1 LOB%, 5.32 FIP

Not to defend a Yankee, but i think that as Burnett's LOB% normalizes, so will his BB/9, which is roughly 0.8 BB/9 higher than his career standards.

Chamberlain, Wang, and Pettite are fair game though.

Burnett will have to get his WHIP, H/9, BB/9, LOB% and FIP all down to maintain his ERA. He got lucky his last start.

In reality, his H/9 is near career standards.

If he normalizes his BB/.9, WHIP and FIP go down by default.

The real question with Burnett is whether he can pitch 2 years in a row without going on the DL. He's never had back to back years with 30+ starts. The closest he came was 27 and 29 in 2001 and 2002.

Can you imagine if the Yankees had to put Hughes back in the rotation? That would be awesome.

It would be even better if kennedy went back into the rotation.

I don't see the issue with saying he could get injured given that Jacko's said that it's an inevitability that Penny will get hurt all year.

And that Papi's done, and that Smoltz will get hurt, and Lowell won't be able play etc etc etc etc.

Burnett had no active issue. He doesnt seem to be able to pitch in any sort of pain' date=' but right now, he has no active issue. The other guys you mentioned have active issues[/quote']

********.

Maybe Smoltz, but he's throwing mid-90's.

Maybe Penny, but he's regained his velocity and has yet to present a setback.

Maybe Papi, but he's hitting .300/390/580 over the last month.

Maybe Lowell, but he's due back after the AS break.

MY ******** DETECTOR JUST WENT THROUGH THE ROOF!

What exactly is Big Papi's issue? He just hit his second 3-run homer in the last 2 games.

And what's Brad Penny's active issue? He's throwing 97, and you claimed just yesterday that his shoulder could fall off at any moment.

just stating how much of a homer Jacko is being.

Wacko Jacko seemed like as appropriate name as any for him.

Good lookin. Jacko has been especially ridiculous lately, so I hereby don him Wacko Jacko.
