A surprise move, I thought he was going to either Denver or the Giants...but a great hire for Green Bay and a loss for the pats. (although he was way overqualified as a secondary coach and special assistant to BB...so it was to be expected) In one sense, I thought that maybe BB was getting Capers ready to take over DC for the pats if Peas left

Despite rumors and reports linking former Pats assistant Dom Capers to the Giants as a potential replacement for former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Capers will be joining the Packers in that same role.

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the two sides have reached an agreement.

Capers replaced Bob Sanders, who was fired 13 days ago.

Other candidates for the job ended up taking defensive coordinator positions elsewhere, including Mike Nolan (Denver) and Gregg Williams (New Orleans).

lol Mangini is not making friends already in Cleveland. He didnt help himself by taking down a mural of former Browns greats at the players entrance

They've got plenty to complain about in Cleveland....ironically this sounds a lot like when BB came in and took over the pats. I am no fan of Mangini, but I do think he will do pretty well this year in Cleveland.

HOUSTON -- When the Houston Texans' coaching staff announced to the linemen that they would be running one-on-one blocking drills during minicamp last May, the rumbling started immediately, players say.

The NFL's rules about minicamp are spelled out in the collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association: no contact, no pads.

"There's a reason why these drills are prohibited in the offseason," offensive guard Dan Stevenson said. "Football is dangerous enough as it is."

But several sources told ESPN that even after the team's player representatives complained to head coach Gary Kubiak, the drills continued; and by the end of minicamp, three players had suffered season-ending injuries.

Well that's not retarded. Is Kubiak really that dumb?

Apparently he is.

Once the team denied that the drill had taken place, Stevenson took a video camera into the Texans' meeting room and filmed the team's video of the workout. The video, which was provided to ESPN, shows what appear to be full-speed, full-contact drills.

In yet another jarring shakeup, the Denver Broncos have reshuffled their front office for the second time in less than a year.

Denver dismissed general manager Jim Goodman and his son Jeff Goodman, another Broncos personnel executive, and promoted Brian Xanders from assistant general manager to general manager, a league source said Thursday.

Last year the Broncos fired then general manager Ted Sundquist, and now they have shaken up their front office yet again to go along with the recent coaching shakeup in which former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels replaced head coach Mike Shanahan.

Xanders joined the Broncos in May after spending 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, where he worked as the Falcons’ director of football administration/player personnel analyst.

Xanders worked with the Falcons in a variety of capacities, including player personnel, coaching, salary cap management, information technology and business management. He was a member of the Falcons’ coaching staff on their 1998 team that became the first in franchise history to earn a Super Bowl berth (XXXIII).

So the Broncos have cut 13 people already. The notables being Dre Bly, Dewayne Robertson, Marquand Manuel, and Jamie Winborn -- four defensive starters.

Thank god Dre Bly's gone.

Not a big surprise:

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/20/warner-will-return-to-the-nfl-in-2009/

While speculation swirled after Super Bowl XLIII about whether Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner would play or retire, the Cardinals organization had little doubt.

Warner regularly showed up to the Cardinals training facility, according to team sources. He met with Cardinals coaches. He talked as if he were hardly ready to walk away from the game. Few within the organization had any reason to think that Warner were done with football.

Now it is confirmed. Warner’s agent Mark Bartelstein told the Chicago Sun-Times at the Indianapolis scouting combine that his client had made his decision official.

“He’s decided he’s going to play,” Bartelstein said. “He’s made up his mind. He wants to play and he always wanted to play.”

That is consistent with the sentiments coming from the Cardinals. Now the two sides must work out a contract, which should not be difficult. Warner wants to be in Arizona, and the Cardinals want him there. It’s a similar story with free-agent-quarterback-to-be Kerry Collins and the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee has offered Collins a starting job, a lucrative contract extension and the chance to be with a team and city he loves.

Most people around the league believe that, unless Collins unexpectedly retires, he will return to quarterback the Titans again. It is his best and most appealing option, just as the Cardinals are Warner’s.

But now, with each quarterback, it’s a numbers game. If the numbers are fair, both teams and both quarterbacks win.

The (current) young backups we have' date=' Black and Hayes, aren't that big themselves (Hayes being almost as small as June).[/quote']

Black is 6'2, and probably about 230 pounds. He can put some weight on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a free agent brought in.

I don't see Hayes in a role other than special teams.

The Jets are going to have some money to play with this offseason, again. Hopefully Ryan will be able to bring in some names to solidify that defense.

Also, I'd love a receiver of some kind.

$156 million between Haynesworth and Hall, wow! One things for sure, Snyder always makes a splash during free agency.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/27/jets-expected-to-sign-lb-scott/

The Jets are expected to sign Scott to a contract worth about $8 million per year that could land in the range of $40 million total. He traveled to visit with the Jets this morning. The Jets also are hosting a visit for Baltimore free-agent CB Corey Ivy. He could be yet another former player of Ryan’s in New York that comes in, helps the Jets learn the new defensive system and contribute on the field as well.

Meanwhile, sources close to Lewis were adamant Friday that one of the game’s greatest defensive players will not return to Baltimore and his career with the team is over. For some reason, Lewis has been rubbed the wrong way in the lengthy negotiations that have occurred between he and the Ravens. Now, Lewis is determined to move on, even if there is no obvious suitor.

The Dallas Cowboys have insisted they will not be signing any high-profile free agents, and there are no other teams that, at the moment, jump out as potential landing spots for Lewis.

Thus, one of Lewis’ confidants was asked if it were possible that the Ravens now could change their linebacker’s mind.

“Not if you knew Ray like I knew Ray,” was his response. He even mentioned retirement as a possibility ahead of returning to Baltimore and insisted it was not a negotiationg ploy. “That’s Ray,” the source said.

Browns traded Kellen Winslow to the Bucs for draft picks

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3939777

The Cleveland Browns traded talented but troublesome tight end Kellen Winslow on Friday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks.

Winslow's five years in Cleveland were marked by injuries and controversy. He missed most of his first two seasons with injuries, but made the Pro Bowl in 2007 after making 82 catches for 1,106 yards. He demanded a new contract after the '07 season.

Before making the deal, the Browns only had four picks in April's draft.
