The Boston Globe reports that the Mets "appear to be closing in on a deal for" Derek Lowe.

According to the newspaper, the deal is expected to be $14-16 million per season for either four years or three years with a fourth-year option.

Good for him if this gets done. He would have been nice here with the infield defense but it's no big loss.

This puts the rotation at:

1. Johan Santana

2. Derek Lowe

3. John Maine

4. Mike Pelfrey

5. Jon Niese?

That's probably what they would ho with unless the Wilpons give omar the green light to go ahead and spend some more money on a Randy Wold/Jon Garland type, which would allow Niese to get some more time fine-tuning his ability in Buffalo (that sounds weird). But I think this is likely how the rotation projects when the season starts.

Hope they wrap it up with Lowe and get him signed before the Red Sox seriously jump in. He would be a good fit there, and he's better off pitching in the NL east than the AL East, that's for sure.

 This FO doesnt seriously jump into free agent signings. Their last 4 big free agent signings had them doing the bidding by themselves (Dice-K, Lugo, Drew, E-Rent)
