Report: Sox Working on Long Term Deals for Youkilis, Lester

I wouldn't think any kind of deal would be negotiated until the Teixeira thing plays out

Agreed.

Though you can be certain the FO is trying to take care of business behind the scenes regarding extensions for Youk and Lester.

Multi-tasking is one of Theo Epstein's strong points IMHO.

Kevin Youkilis and the Red Sox will not reach a long-term contract agreement this offseason, said Joe Bick, Youkilis's agent. Youkilis and the team have discussed a possible long-term contract this winter, but the sides currently stand too far apart for a deal to be finished before the 2009 season.

“We’ve had some initial conversations” toward a long-term contract, said Joe Bick, Youkilis’s agent. “It doesn’t look promising.”

LOL thank god we have Will Middlebrooks and Michael Almanzar!

But never fear, Lars Anderson is here!

It should be noted that Youkilis has played under one-year contracts for his entire career with Boston, and he has the kind of personality that allows him to thrive while proving his value season-by-season. It should also be noted that the Red Sox have highly rated first base prospect Lars Anderson waiting in the minors, making matters at that position less urgent.

guys we have no idea what Youkillis wants. He is probably basing his contract demands off last season alone. And last season was a career year for him. And the Sox aren't going to give him that after just 1 season. And i'm sure the Sox want a discount like Pedroia gave.

If they can ink Lester long term I'd be happy. Youk would be nice, but 1B isn't as big as a stud SP.

Considering Lowell will be gone in two years, the logical move will be to slide Youk to 3rd base and bring in Anderson at first making Youk a pretty good guy to keep

Youk: JWH I want 50MIL over 5 years

JWH : I'll give you 45MIL over 5 years

Youk: I want 50

JWH : Thats way too much Youk ,we're too far apart on this ,I guess you wont be a factor in our future plans

Looks like the Youk deal possibility is dead, but I hope they wrap up Lester. Ace of the staff last year, projected by several outlets to be even better this year... an innings horse, 94-96, lefty. Gotta wrap him up young if they can.

I'd like to extend Bay first, which should have been done already.

It's simple really...give Youk the $.

His future with this club lies at 3rd base when Lars comes up. Lowell will be gone and Youk can easily be the Sox future at 3rd.

Theo... lock him up.

It is gonna be tough. He's put up a hell of a resume, is young and is one yr from FA. He's gonna ask for a TON of money. He might get close to 20 mil a yr on the open market.
