Here's a new one: Baggarly's heard the Phillies will listen to offers for shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Rollins is owed just $23.5MM over the next three seasons.

Not saying it's a reliable source, just saw it, thought it make good conversation.

Yyyyeah. If there's one player who you'd think would be totally unavailable, it's Jimmy Rollins the world champ. Philly fans would lynch the GM, and with Philly fans that's not necessarily an idle threat.

I can only imagine him saying "The Boston Red Sox are the team to beat, yea!"

And then getting his ass kicked by the Rays.....

the only thing Jay-Roll is available for is autographs they would never trade the best SS in baseball.

1. Hanley Ramirez

2. Jose Reyes

3. Jimmy Rollins

Anyway, I think he's overrated and would cost too much for his value. Pass.

Woah. Derek Jeter has 3 rings. 2' date='000 plus hits. I hate Jeter with a passion but to me itt's him then everyone else.[/quote']

What makes you think in this point in time that Derek Jeter is better offensively or defensively than Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez or Jimmy Rollins?

All 3 of them are better defensive shortstops, as Jeter is one of the worst fielders in baseball per every defensive measuring statistic and every writer with an inch of self-respect.

Offensively, he may have 2,000 hits, but how does that measure his current offensive performance when all 3 shortstops i mention are speed/contact/power hybrids when right now, Jeter is basically just a singles hitter ?

Yes, his 3 rings, indicatives or past glory, Jeter WAS a top 3 SS and one of the best players some time ago, and he may still be clutch, but if you look at statistics or hell, even watch ballgames, how dare you say Jeter is a top-3 SS?

If you made the above statement without at least a grin of sarcasm in your face, then, you, sir :

In every way, shape or form imaginable.

Derek Jeter has 4 rings' date=' not 3. But now he's no better than an average SS, if even that.[/quote']

I wouldn't go that far, at least offensively. In his downyear this past year: .300/.363/.408, 11 HR, 11 SB. He's a solid SS.

Let's look at who has the upper hand in the 162 game averages:

Rollins: HR, SLG, Doubles, Total Bases

Reyes: AVG, OBP, SB, OPS+, Hits, Runs, Triples, K (fewer).

So I would say Reyes is better on average in any given year, although they are pretty different players.

Maybe you can sell me Reyes. Big maybe, but Hanley is a awful Short stop with the glove.

I'd still take Jeter' date=' CB, Gets a big hit in every big spot it seems.[/quote']

Even though Ramirez had a higher OPS in most 'clutch' situations, and is only 24 years old? You'd rather take the 34 year old Jeter, who can no longer defend his position, because he used to get big hits?

Depends. If we are a rebuilding franchise then I'd take Jose Reyes. If we had 1-3 years to win I'd take the fag.

Derek Jeter was rated the worst defensive player in baseball by Bill James last season. At the most important (or one of the most important) defensive positions.

Reyes is already better than Jeter. So is Ramirez.

I would take Derek Jeter over those 3 anytime. Who cares about the stats? Season stats don't matter when you're in a world series. RRRata.

And Jimmy Rollins is not better than Jeter, and even if he is. He'll never have a career as good as Derek's.

Is this post serious? Please tell me this isn't serious.

This is the product of what happens when a brother and sister pro-create.
