Rumors are swirling that a trade may be in the works to help shore up the starting rotation for the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies are reportedly in talks with the New York Yankees to swap center fielder Willy Taveras for starting pitcher Ian Kennedy.

The Rockies have made it well known that they are in the market for a starting pitcher this winter. Most pundits have assumed that they would be dangling All Star outfielder Matt Holliday or slugging third baseman Garrett Atkins.

In Colorado, Taveras has become expendable to make room for top prospect Dexter Fowler, another speedster who also hits for average and power. Even if the Rockies choose to let Fowler gain some experience in Triple-A Colorado Springs, they still have Ryan Spilborghs and Seth Smith to man center field.

In New York, the Yankees are looking for an upgrade in center after Melky Cabrera turned in a disappointing '08 season. Taveras' numbers (.251 BA, .308 OBP) nearly mirror Cabrera's (.249 BA, .301 OBP), except in the stolen-base department, where Taveras set a Rockies record with 67 stolen bags.

Please Cashman, DO NOT go out and get Wily Taveras.

Maybe put together a package including Kennedy and try to pry Atkins away.

Why do you need a slugging 3B? Ya have one already.

HAHAHAHAHA, I LOVE how in one year, Ian Kennedy goes from the centerpiece in a package for Johan Santana to the guy to get Willy Taveras. What a tool

Atkins to 1b maybe? Regardless, I dont see how this does anything for us. I could see Kennedy being the centerpiece in a DeJesus deal, and I'd f***ing love that

He can play first too.

Also, I like Dejesus, but I'm not entrely sold on him as the next Yankee center fielder. I'd like to try and do better.

And I dont care what deal Kennedy goes in, as long as he goes.

Sad, but true.

I'm surprised you're advocating this deal. I for one, would not trade Kennedy unless you get a serviceable player back, and that does not mean Tavares.

Why sell low? Stick him in the minors, hopefully he does well and then some team may bite. Getting a Melky clone with speed is useless.

He's been revealed as a soft tossing RHP. It's too late to hide him in the minors and hope everyone forgets how bad he was, and forget he like to pop off at the mouth. the Kid has the stuff of a 40 year old Mussina, but he's in his low 20's. Get whatever you can for him.

I don't know if Colorado is the best fit for him, but he might be salvagable in the NL.

I actually think the pendulum has swung too far the other way on Ian Kennedy. He's not what the Yankees thought he was when they lumped him in with Hughes and Joba, but he should have some kind of a career as a major league SP.

A possible DeJesus deal would be tough to resist for the Yankees. Dejesus is their kind of player. You worry a bit about the D, but DDJ has good on base skills and lefthanded pop to take advantage of that short porch.

Sounded like he was advocating a deal for DeJesus, not Taveras.
