The last time Lowe was here our middle infield was a total shambles, which wrecks havoc on a sinkerballer. I wouldn't count on Lowe for much less than a 4.2 ERA, but he'd be useful at that level.

I wonder what it would take to get Gil Meche from the Royals. THey love Meche, but I'm pretty sure that with the pitchers on the market now they could wish for the financial flexibility to go after someone this year.

Tim Wakefield spent the last 14 seasons with the Red Sox [team stats]. Today, the Sox are expected to officially invite him back for a 15th year.

Wakefield recently completed an end-of-year physical and MRI, the last hurdle before the Red Sox exercise their $4 million club option for 2009. His unique arrangement with the club, in a deal signed back in 2005, features an annual club option that, in theory, extends into perpetuity.

Each fall, the Sox have five days from the completion of the World Series to exercise their option.

Wakefield, 42, was 10-11 with a 4.13 ERA in 30 starts this season, the fifth time in the last six years he reached 30 starts. He has also won in double figures in six of the last seven seasons.

Now, if we lose the caddy, I'd be 100% on board.

4/5 of the rotation looks set now.

At this point it looks like their not gona pursue a sarting pitcher , with one slot left it will be most likely buchholz or masterson

Don't rule Bowden out. I really liked what I saw from him in his debut against what was ultimately a playoff team, and he supposedly has good command. It's a longshot since he hasn't had a full season of AAA, but then Masterson had even less. That, and Bowden should be good for ~180 IP next year so there's really not much reason to hold him bac.
