Lol, Dusty Baker. I feel pretty bad for Homer Bailey, Edinson Volquez and Johnny Cueto.

I have plenty of beefs with Francona over his in game management, but you can't argue with the results. And he won't be fired any time soon.

I agree - I think Manuel's a bit underrated and keep in mind Gaston's got two rings himself.

You're right, Gaston just didn't even occur to me considering how long he had been out of the dugout prior to comign back this season. I agree Manuel is underrated, but he did have some great Guardians teams.

agree. Cox has one ring. LaRussa is good but I feel he is a bit overrated, and likes to make himself the show.

Lou Piniella is not as good of a manager as Terry Francona.

Cox still led his team to 15 straight division titles. LaRussa is a very inteligent and innovative manager, I can't put him beneath Francona, sorry. As for Lou, that's debatable, could go either way. Lou has a much greater legacy, however and has accomplished a shitload. He might not have as many rings but he has undeniably had an incredible managerial career. Can't forget his 116 win 2001 Mariners. But like I said, debatable.

You can't give Bochy a pass for bad teams and then bring Francona's total WP% into play. I know this wasn't a knock on Francona, but keep in mind Tito had some awful Phillies teams.

Dusty Baker kills young arms, no thanks.

Clint Hurdle over Francona? For what, 3 and a half weeks?

Fair enough. I wasn't claiming that that last group I mentioned were in fact better than Francona, just sayign they were guys who could make a case. I think the job Hurdle did last year though was incredible, and although his tenure in Colorado hasn't produced much succes he's done a great job managing those players, as well as being a very good in game manager.

Say what you want about the squeeze play, but I feel Scoscia is far and away a better in-game tactician that Tito.

Absolutely without a doubt. Not to take anything awayfrom Tito, but as a testament to Scoscia's abilities. He is probably, at least IMO the best manager in the AL.

Joe Maddon is good, but he still has to prove he isn't a one-year wonder.

He's a good baseball man and a great teacher. He might only have 3 years as a big-league manager (not including the 27 games he managed the Angels while a coach), but I like what I've seen from him. he's done a great job bringing the young players together the past few years, and then getting them over the top this year with an added veteran influence. I think he can potentially be great. Not to mention all those years he spent coaching in the Angels organization, 6 of which were under Scoscia. He may still have a lot to prove, but I think he's done an incredible job.

I think Eric Wedge is a pretty damn good manager. He had absolutely nothing to work with this year besides good years from Lee, Sizemore and Shoppach

I absolutely agree. I meant to mention him in my post but forgot as I was going over the resumes of the othes that I mentioned. Throw him in the debatable category, idk if i would call him better than Tito though, but upon futher review and analysis who knows. But yes, he is a fantastic manager, especially considering his young age.

What does a manager do in innings 1-6?

Mike and Tito are very different. Mike wouldnt do well in Boston, but does better than Tito would with the Angels. One manages games, one manages people. They each have their benefits and drawbacks.

Good point. I phrased that poorly. I drew attention to innings 1-6 because Tito is hands off like a manager should be, IMO. Scioscia launches into small ball far sooner in the game than is necessary.
