...and this time he's ripping former teammate Manny Ramirez.

I came across these links highlighting a conversation he had on WEEI yesterday I guess.

I'm not gonna post all of his quotes as you can read them in the stories, I will however post this one in particular, which is my favorite from the bunch...

"The thing about it for me, is, I haven't thrown a freakin' pitch all year, I've been the biggest waste of space, I've been robbing payroll for the entire season, no one feels worse about not contributing than me . . . I'm the last person in the world who should be telling you who's right and who's wrong in this. But I was a teammate, a member of this family, and I saw it, and it's no different than what Lou [Merloni] and Brian [Daubach] saw. And to me, it was always those guys, the guys who played a crucial role on teams that weren't the marquee players, are the ones that were disrespected the most, because if any of those players ever acted or did or said anything. [speaking to Merloni:] Lou, you're in Seattle, and if you refused to get on a team plane, you know what they'd do? They'd give you an Air France ticket home."

And Curt will not shy away from facing him down the next time Manny is in town. I remember when Manny pulled his work stoppage in 2005, there was footage of Schilling giving him a lecture in pregame workouts. It was clear that Manny was looking to get away from him. Right after that, Manny ratcheted up his rhetoric and he told management to "get me away from this guy." It's funny though, he didn't tell Schilling to his face to "buzz off." He's a very large loud intimidating man that few people will come back at.

Schilling is entitled to say what he wants.

GM Ed Wade said it best.

"Curt is a horse one day out of five, and a horse's ass the the other four."

Nothing was wrong with it at all, I was just sharing his comments. I'm not disagreeing with anything he said whatsoever, it seems thats the impression some of you have gotten though. I apologize for the misrepresentation of my actual opinion.

im waiting for one of you guys to come in and say Schilling has no right to criticize Manny cause he hasnt pitched all year
I think their position is that Schilling is not entitled to have an opinion on anything to do with sports, because he hasn't pitched all year.

exactly, what they don't understand is that no one in that clubhouse can get away with that kind of candor without being a major distraction to the team, which is the same reason Lou Merloni blasted Manny in the same article and Dennis Eckersley blasted him a few months ago

Lou Merloni and Dennis Eckersley are doing their jobs, which is something that can't be said about Curt Schilling.

I'm of the opinion that what he says probably isn't wrong but the timing sucks, and since he's not pitching he needs to STFU.

He's paid by WEEI (in the form of contributions to his ALS foundation) to be interviewed so technically he is doing his job when he answers their questions

I was unaware the Red Sox paid Curt Schilling $8 million to give interviews.

I don't see why it matters that he hasn't pitched all season. He always been opinionated, always will be and is still a member of the Red Sox.

Sure, I'd be annoyed by him if he played for another team. But without him, they wouldn't have won the 2004 WS. For that reason alone as well as 2007, he can say whatever he wants IMO. Same for Manny. His "antics" never really bothered me until it was crystal clear that he wanted out. He can say what he wants. I'll always wish him nothing but the best....unless he plays for the Yankees...ha ha!

I like Schilling to speak his mind. Someone has too. And atleast he admits that he's done nothing this year and should be the last person to be talking, but that's Schilling.

its amazing that everyone loves it when athletes speak their minds but when Schilling goes on EEI and is asked a question and then answers is truthfully as opposed to the conventional "things just didn't work out and Manny felt it was time for a change" answer and then people come out of the woodwork and call him a blowhard when all he does is go on and voice his opinion which guess what? we all do here on a daily basis

Yeah, everyone gets pissed at Schilling for talking bad about another athelete (who really deserves it anyway), yet no one even gives a flying f*** about Josh Howard's disrespect of the National Anthem. No we don't care about that.

I don't get paid $8 million to post here.

Look - I don't think what he said was inherently wrong, but why say it now? HE SAID IT WHEN MANNY WAS TRADED.

This was a complete non-issue, only to be brought up again by Schilling which he does time and time and time again.

This wasn't a scheduled interview. HE CALLED IN. He wanted to raise the distraction.

I tell you what - I'll give Schilling a pass when you tell me what good him bringing this up caused.

he wanted to voice his opinion and bring to light certain things that were in the dark, thats all

you're gonna hear a lot more of this type of stuff from a lot of other people during the off-season

Then bring it up in the offseason, not two weeks before the playoffs.

How you can defend Schilling here is beyond me.

Posted
I dont see anything to defend, he's not in the clubhouse at all and most don't even consider him a member of the team anymore so I dont see how his comments could possibly serve as a distraction, at least no more than the ******** Manny was pulling here
Posted
But what good comes of these comments?

Can't wait until tomorrow when the first reporter asks Ortiz "Is Curt right"

I think the players are big boys. They've been asked all the Manny questions many times before. The answers will be the same as before. "We have to look forward." I see no possible harm that could come to the team from his comments. As for the distinction between being paid or not paid to give an opinion, I just don't get it. His baseball career is probably over. I am sure he is interested in pursuing a career as an announcer/analyst/commentator. He is trying to keep himself in the public eye and to create buzz for himself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

And you don't think the first question he gets from out-of-town reporters is about Manny anyway?

So what you're telling me is the only good that can possibly comes from these comments is a benefit that only affects Curt Schilling.

Yeah, that seems about right.

Yeah, that seems about right.

His remarks don't need to benefit anybody. I think you are applying a double standard to Curt. Who else do we hold to a standard that not only must their remarks not be harmful, but they should benefit someone other than the speaker? I find nothing wrong with him promoting himself as a commentator for his next career.
