They've been going slowly. Here are the most recent updates...

Gammons:

The Manny Ramirez trade conversations are expected to continue into Thursday, according to a source. Because it's a very complicated deal, involving a player who has the right to veto the trade and other parts, it is still unlikely to happen. But the negotiations will go on.

Carroll:

The Commissioner’s Office has been informed of a deal involving the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins. The Commissioner has to sign off on any deal involving cash considerations of more than a million dollars and there was clearly going to be cash involved in any deal. There’s also some formality about Manny Ramirez waiving his 10-5 rights and no trade clause and I’ll admit not understanding the technicalities.

So here’s what Pee Wee Herman would call the “big but.” The teams, I am told, have not agreed on the specific prospects to be included in the deal. It’s expected that in addition to the principals, the Red Sox would get John Grabow and give up two prospects while the Marlins would get one prospect and give up two. There’s still a lot of haggling but my scribbling notes make it look like the structure of the deal is:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)

Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)

Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

There is still potential for this to fall apart over the prospects, though things appear closer now than ever before.

I think I was just at Manny's last Red Sox game' date=' and I didn't even give him the standing ovation he deserved...bummer.[/quote']

There's a lot of things Manny thinks he deserves that he doesn't get

This is different. Sure he was kind of a whiny bitch on the way out, but he was one of the most productive hitters in baseball for 7 1/2 years with us, and helped us win 2 World Series. He'll always have that going for him.

Yeah i agree with that man.

To me, Manny is a big part of the sox, and he was what made me like them so much. All the good he's done the past few years i've watched him in my opinion out weighs the drama that honestly is getting blown up by Boston media. Honestly I don't think Manny is all there if you know what I mean. I just can't find it in me to call someone like that an ******* and a prick and blah blah blah. So he misses a few games and doesn't run out a ground ball and makes some ill-advised comments and suddenly 2 world championships and tons of home runs and rbi's and s*** are right out the window and he's suddenly expendable. Really I love this team, but the media and most people involved with it just make it so f***ing hard to like them

Bingo. Another Hall of Famer run out of town. Joins Boggs, Clemens, and Pedro. It's a miracle you won anything.

Gom, you don't know what you're talking about. He's running himself out of town on purpose. You're just seizing the opportunity to pretend that Yankee fans treat their players better than Red Sox fans.

Boggs left on his own accord, Clemens was a jerk after he left, and the Pedro and Nomar decisions were the right ones.

Damon is the only one you could have made a case for keeping...and he was awful last year.
