Shocking... As a DH or a first basemen his value really declines in my opinion. Obviously if he opts not to have surgery he won't be able to catch, and considering he won't ready by the start of the season next year unless he has surgery soon, I think he should end his season now.

Molina's a very good defensive catcher - the problem is the Yanks offense is so weak w/o Damon/Matsui etc. they need more from that position.

Losing a switch hitter in that line-up hurts. Having Molina at catcher is a significant improvement defensively, but having him and a combination of Gardner/Christiansen batting 8 and 9 in the order really weakens the team offensively. It's tough to give up two outs every three innings and remain competitive.

That and a questionable starting rotation ;)

Once Damon is healthy enough to play in the field then you won't necessarily have to play Gardner or Christian.

Not as much of a loss as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, he's a good hitter for a catcher, but I'd rather have Molina back there. Is it any wonder that the Yankee pitching is better than it has been in years?

Take your time Posada.

I don't understand why the Yankees don't go get Lofton or pretty much any hitter to play the OF. Love to see Melky and Ohlendorf go to the Pirates for Nady and/or Marte.

It couldnt start with Horne cause he's on the DL and we'd be selling low on him. It also wont start with Melancon because he is essentially an untouchable. We really dont have a great match for the pirates. They have a plethora of OF possiblities with McLouth and McCutchen there for a long time. Bay is the guy I'd target, not a 2 month rental of a platoon player having a career yr.

The only thing we could offer the Buccos is relievers (which they will desperately need with Capps down and Marte dealt) so Ohlendorf makes sense. But they also could use another starter, so a guy like Kennedy (if it was Bay) or Dan McCutchen (for Nady) would make sense.

The Pirates are going to be looking for pitching prospects that can contribute to their club right away - they have nothing in AA or AAA in terms of pitching.

If you want Bay you will have to consider gibing up a guy like Melancon because he's a great player.

McCutchen for Nady makes some sense but if you think Kennedy is going to get you Bay then I don't know what to tell you.

I think a move for Bay would be the best fit. I think Kennedy's days in NY are numbered. Something will build around Kennedy, as there really isn't a fit for him anymore.

As for Posada, I think he'd be a good bat off the bench or DH down the stretch, but I'd rather he had the surgery. I think he's putting it off in conjunction with the trade deadline, to help the Yankees bargaining position.
