This is per ESPN. Manny is essentially insinuating that the sox have been deceptive in his handling and wants to know where he stands. Henry is upset because he thinks he has been straightforward with Manny. To be honest with you, with the way this market will be, I dont see how Manny hits the road. The cash is high, but the flexibility is sweet. I see him in a sox uni next yr.

in the end, I do too. the comments were stupid and he was, in all likelyhood, just trying to get the FO to sit down with him but John Henry is an honorable man who seems to pride himself in doing business the right way so good for him for firing back

We don't know the specifics of what is making him feel this way, so I hope people can steer clear of defending his comments or the front office. That said, as far as negotiating strategy goes, this is not a smart move by Manny. If he wants his option picked up, and he has to because he won't make $20M from anyone else next year, then he shouldn't imply the ownership group has been disingenuous in their dealing with him. On the other hand, maybe he doesn't want the option picked up so he can go elsewhere, and this is part of the plan to make retaining him undesirable. Tough to tell what's going on with that Fruit Loop.

I'd rather see the Red Sox persue Matt Holliday in the offseason than deal with Manny Ramirez.

historically, he hasn't been great away from Coors though

True, but he is a big RH bat. Fenway won't reduce those home numbers much, and his road parks in the AL East aren't as penalizing as Petco, Dodger Stadium, and whatever they are calling it now in SF.

The caveat is that Holliday isn't a free-agent until the '09 offseason. To get him this offseason, they have to give up talent. Manny Ramirez just costs money, and they can get him for only one year if they wish to wait for Holliday to become a FA. Taking that into consideration, I think the best bet is to go for another year with Manny and worry about Holliday next year.

What would Matt Holliday cost right now? Would a deal surrounding Michael Bowden and Josh Reddick (Holliday's eventual replacement) be able to persuade Colorado? It's crazy but if they could pull a deal now would they consider doing that and cutting Manny lose to another contender looking for a big bat such as the NY Mets who have always been interested in Manny, not to mention they could afford his options AND they lost Moises Alou. Thats as big a long shot as they get but when you piss off the owner....you just never know.

Not entirely true.

Holliday's Away Numbers:

BA/OBP/SLG/OPS

2004 - .240/.287/.367/.654

2005 - .256/.313/.416/.729

2006 - .280/.333/.485/.819

2007 - .301/.374/.485/.860

2008 - .301/.400/.459/.859

There's a distinct upward trend after his awful 2004 and 2005 seasons. In a hitter's park like Fenway I think the guy could flourish.

Too bad he's not a FA til after next season, though.

Holiday is just entering his prime. With the numbers he has put together, it would require SIGNIFICANTLY more than that to get him from Colorado.

Bowden/Reddick/Filler won't be enough to get Holliday.

Masterson would be a good starting point.

he hasn't been awful but those road numbers aren't nearly good enough for the money and years he will get after next season

He also plays in Pac Bell and Petco, two of the most extreme pitchers parks in the league, with regularity.

You don't see the appeal of Holliday denting the Monster constantly?

Posted
No, I do. I can see him taking advantage of it similar to the way Lowell has actually. I guess I'm just always leery of NL guys coming to the AL, especially leaving Coors

Yankee fans live in the ever present hope that Manny gets traded or that Manny pulls a work stoppage resulting in a trade. The drama is fodder for the sports pages. He's not going anywhere, and nothing can stop him from being a force with the bat.

this has been a weird year for manny,a man who usually dont say s*** even with a mouthfull of it..

i preferred him as a quiet guy who let his bat do the talking.

will he be here next spring?

id hate to think otherwise

Age.

Age.
Yes, age will eventually stop him as it stops everyone, but waiting for age to take its toll is very frustrating. Red Sox fans are still waiting for age to take its toll on Mo.

they fear him more than the fact that 23% of nyers are walking around with herpes festering in their pants....thats what we refer to as INTIMIDATION over here on the eastern edge of worcester county...i see him producing large in the 2nd half, especially if he gets to hit in the ortiz/drew lefty sandwich...anyone else here think jd drew will come back to earth when ortiz comes back?

by coming back to earth i mean slugging less than .700 and having solid yet non spectacular #s?

no knock on drew here but his explosion did coincide with him hitting in front of ramirez,a place where every real hitter dreams of being slotted..

if drew does 30/100/.300 with an obp of .375 and 100 runs i will be absolutley thrilled.

i believe it could be a real breakout year for him after his june performance and the a/star games mvp in his pocket...

his confidence has got to be high and should be since his october and blistering late spring explosion.

lets hold hands and pray this boy avoids the nagging issues which have prevented him from being a 150 game player....who knows what this guys#s will look like with 600abs...

3 way deal anyone?

Sox get- Holliday, Fuentes

Mets get- Manny

Rox get- Masterson, + 2 more prospects from the Sox and 1 or 2 from the Mets.....

I am in no way saying the Sox have to trade Manny, but hes is getting up there in age, and Holliday could play LF and Knock 30 HR for the next 6 or 7 years and beyond. Holliday would have to be inked long term for this to be worth it tho.

I think getting both Fuentes and Holliday would take a little more, not to mention different pieces as I believe the Rockies stated they want MLB players not prospects.

they really shouldnt f*** with anything offensively.

when ortiz come back friday we're then clicking on all 8 cylinders and veritek.

whether or not they resign ramirez is a question for november but for now why trade a future hof mid season unless you want to f*** with the karma of the current world champs?

david ortiz and jd drew want him hitting cleanup, mike lowell wants him hitting cleanup,I want him hitting cleanup...the only people who dont want him hitting cleanup are 200 miles southwest of here.
