Nobody here has said that Francona did not show class last night' date=' the manner in which he replaced A-Rod and Jeter was very classy and acknowledged as such by both ARod and Jeter. Does Francona need his ego stroked by a public acknowledgement on a Red Sox forum, I don't think so. [/quote']

Well considering the treatment he received from NYY fans last night I think it would be a nice gesture - especially in the wake of Yankee fans' transgressions the last few days.

As for Papelbon's flawed logic, see Bosox21's comments above. He believed he would be the closer because his manager was the manager of the AL squad. That's not flawed? What does his performance in the 07 WS have to do with the 08 AS game?

His performance in the 2007 WS is an example of why he is one of the elite closers in the game. He is having an excellent season, although not as good as his 2006 or 2007 seasons.

He is a closer. He wants to close. The 2007 WS showed that he is one of the best in the game, which the All-Star Game is all about. We're getting on Papelbon for wanting to close a game. Rivera didn't take issue with the comments - why should anyone else? Especially with the way the game played out anyway?

Hindsight is 20/20 as far as how the game played out. I'm not getting on Papelbon for wanting to close the game, just his flawed logic that because Francona was the manager he should be the closer. There are many considerations the manager has to make in deterimining who the closer will be, not just what a player did the previous post-season. Again, a much better answer would have been to state that Tito is the manager and will make that decision.

Having said that, we are about to embark on the second half of the season with only 6 games separating first and third in the AL East. LET'S GET IT GOING and may the best team win!!

Really ??? -- Torre was 4-0 in the AS game as manager, 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001.

1997 - Rivera got the save - the other closer on the AL roster was Randy Myers

1999 - Rivera didn't pitch in the AS game

2000 - Rivera pitched in a non-save situation. Other closer was Isringhausen who also pitched - edge to Rivera

2001 - Rivera did not pitch in the AS game. Sasaki got the save.

Jesus bb, drop it already!:)

When you're unemployed you need something to blame.

Yeah put that in SI f***ers.

I was quoted in that article. I LOVE IT!

Dude, the bleachers..if you noticed we stayed the WHOLE GAME! We cheered Drew. f***, we would have cheered Ted Williams if he would have ended the game.

Great game...Papelbon sucked, Wagner blew the save, Mo was awesome, AL won. Drew MVP was the only slight, but hey...better him than someone from the NL.

A good day..until I got outside and my car was burglarized. I love state farm insurance!

I watched most of the All-Star Game last night. I did so because:

1. There was nothing else on, and

2. Baseball is the most watchable of all the All-Star/Pro Bowl games

I wouldn't watch the Pro Bowl or the NBA or NHL All-Star games if they were being played at the Catholic high school by me and admission was free.

It's done VA - just couldn't let a glaring display of misinformation go without a correction ;)

You corrected misinformation by pointing out that Mo closed the '97 and 2000 All Star games? In '99 Torre pitched Cone and he let one of his former boys close out the game-- Wetteland. Also, at the time of the All Star Break in 1999 Rivera probably had his roughest period as a major leaguer. He pitched 4 games in the 6 days prior to the break and blew 2 saves giving up 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings. In his first save opportunity after the break, he gave up 4 runs blowing a save and getting the loss. The simple truth is that at the time of the All Star break, Mo was struggling badly. Maybe Joe didn't want to put him in a situation where he would fail. In 2001, Torre pitched 3 of his boys-- Clemens, Pettitte and Stanton. Torre always unabashedly favored his players and snubbed opponent's players. The fact that he used to bring the likes of Stanton made that quite obvious.

I'm bored out of my mind w/out baseball. And tomorrow's game starts at 10pm, at least it's a Friday. Will have the FOX game on Saturday.

Does anyone know why Sun night's game on ESPN is at 6pm instead of 8pm? Not complaining, I wish it was always that early. Just wondering.

Oh, ok thanks. Couldn't think of an actual sporting event that might be the reason. Cool, I'll get to bed early
