The Brewers and the Cleveland Guardians agreed in principle to a deal for the reigning AL Cy Young on Sunday, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney. The deal is contingent on paperwork being finished and the exchange of medical records.

The trade was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Cleveland would get Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who is hitting .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Huntsville, and others. The other players do not include top prospects Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel, according to the Journal Sentinel.

I'd need to see who else is ivnolved but right now you call that a win for Milwaukee if they can sign him.

I just sent an email to my Cubs fan friends telling them I'm glad that Sabathia is their worry now, not mine :D .

At least my White Sox got to pwn Sabathia a few times before he got traded. Sweeping the Tribe last week was sweet.

If they can re-sign him (do people think they will?) it's a good deal for the Brewers.

It depends on whether they can re-sign him. Then it would probably be a good deal. I wouldn't go more than 4 yrs for him.

Sheets has already said he isn't returning to Milwaukee so I guess that frees up money to make Sabathia a competitive offer. Competitive enough to rival the Yankees offer? We'll see....

If they don't sign him they get 4 high draft picks.

In a weak NL, they're going for it. Good move.

2 picks, and none will be in the top 15. They will either get a first rounder or a second rounder from the team that signs them (1st rounder if it is a team in the 16-30 and second rounder if that team is from 1-15) and will get a supplemental 1st round pick.

LaPorta is a 30 HR threat in the OF, Cleveland didn't exactly get robbed here. They got a nice package for CC who has pitched better of late, but his awful psot season and bad start to this season had to have tarnished his trade value a bit. Laporta is better then anything Minny got for Santanna.

BTW, the Brewers have a payroll in the $40-50M range, they would have to raise it by 50% to sign CC. Theres no way he signs there, this is a rental, win this season. The Crew is said to be looking to shop Prince this off season, it doesn't look like they want to raise there payroll. They will collect the draft picks, not sign CC.

For Sabathia AND Sheets?

good to see him heading out to the national league

wouldnt want to see him try and make ammends for that horrible effort against us last october

the brewers should be in a solid position to at least make a run at the wild card.

with sheets and cc they have a good 1-2,suppan has sucked horribly as of late but should be somewhat serviceable down the stretch in a league where ted lilly and jason marquis are considered decent.

how bad is capuano banged up?

is solomon torres going to be able to handle this pressure come october?

are guillermo mota and derek turnbow and david riske and eric gagne going to get it together?

bush has thrown very well his last few outings, suppan has gone the other way and may finally be dust.

how a mlb pitcher can have 4 suck starts in a row in that league is beyond me.

a good move for milwaukee whether they sign him or not because they have a pop this year and can show their fan base that ya,we're going to give it a real run this year and with their 1-2's i say they have as good a pop as anyone...i mean really

the cubs??...the cubs???

i dont think so,not with zambrano being a 6ip 100 pitch guy and not with brittle kerry wood and not with ted lilly and marquis either....
