Scouting Report:

Red Sox: Matsuzaka struggled mightily in earning his eighth win of the season May 22 against Kansas City. The righty went 5 2/3 innings, scattering six hits for three earned runs while surrendering six walks and two wild pitches. Still, Matsuzaka pitched out of jams when necessary and earned the victory in an 11-3 win. His eight wins lead the American League. Matsuzaka will get the nod against Seattle having gone 1-1 with a 4.33 ERA against the Mariners in his career. His lone win against the Mariners came at Safeco Field.

Mariners: The first-inning blues that have haunted Batista this month were somewhat solved in his last outing as he held the Tigers to one run. But a three-run second inning, and another run in the third, sent the veteran right-hander to another early shower, the third time in his past six starts that he never made it to the fourth inning. He has used a short-arm technique since tossing 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the Angels on April 20 and it might be time to scrap it and go back to his old style.

Take 2 and a sweep tomorrow.

Matsuzaka's been a beast, I'd like to see him continue down this path of... beastiality?

He's also been really lucky that his horrible amount of walks hasn't come back to bite him yet. The key to this game for Dice is getting first pitch strikes and attacking the zone. Let's go Sox!

over/under on Dice-BB's walks: 5

thoughts anyone?

I say five or six walks, but that they come early, and I'd say by the third he'll settle in. Maybe three walks between the 1st and 3rd and then maybe two or three more towards the end of his performance.

I'll take the under too. I'm going to go with 2. 2 BB and 7K in 7 innings. 2 ER and a W at the end of the game. Thats my guess. As lucky as he has been, people have been overlooking how dirty he has been along the way too.

Dice-K needs to walk more guys. He's off his rhythm from throwing too many pitches in the strike zone.

Or maybe the problem is that our batters couldn't find second base (to say nothing of home plate) with a GPS unit today.

Yeah' date=' one of these games he'll get whats coming to him. Hopefully not tonight.[/quote']

Well he ain't getting the win tonight. That's for sure.

Lugo got tossed? We might win after all!

What happened (Gamecast gives no details)?

Lugo decides he's gonna play manager and argue that the Mariner's batter went around on the check swing. The Ump tossed him and Tito came out to argue that, and about 2 minutes later Tito was tossed.

Nice. I've never seen a SS argue a balls and strikes call before. That's... um... ambitious of him.

I think he's trying other positions as he's starting to realize his shortstop career won't last him much longer.

Good point. Though I'm not entirely sure that he's managerial material.

Which is exactly why he's going for the position.
