What? ARod and Manny are friends. I think it's pretty cool ARod is doing this.

I do too. it'll be a cool moment at Fenway when he gets the s*** booed out of him

I think it's a pretty cool thing to do, personally. The only people capable of "ruining" the moment are the fans by booing A-Rod. It can't be so difficult to just not boo the guy once so he can congratulate his friend. :dunno:

the only problem is that you know the crowd will boo. and it's just stupid to have the crowd booing after such a great accomplishment. something from pedro would have been much cooler if you ask me

If they really want to do it right they need to have a clip of Heidi doing a Pesky Pole dance in a g-string that says "500 - Hit it here!"

Another lose/lose situation for A-Rod. The Red Sox organization asked A-Rod to tape the message, but some view it as A-Rod trying to steal the thunder from Manny. On the other hand, if A-Rod refused to make the tape he would be looked at as self-centered and arrogant. He can't win this situation.

Manny will hit the HR, he'll get cheered like crazy, he'll get his curtain call. they'll play all the messages and finish with A-Rod, who the fans will boo and get a massive kick out of it and then everyone at Fenway will sit down with a big smile on their faces

Manny has never been a conventional athlete, why should a ceremony honoring his accomplishment be conventional?

:D

I'm awaiting this crowd reaction.

Do you think A-Rod would get booed louder than McGuire?

Sosa?

Palmiero?

Bonds???

I thought for a second it would be a nice tribute to have a short clip with congratulations from each of the surviving members of the 500 Club, there's around a dozen or so still alive. But the lists of recents unfortunately reads like Canseco's book.

I like the opportunity to possibly boo A-Rod more. But at this pace it won't be till the all-star break when Manny hits two more!

It happened in Baltimore, so probably not.

They were using specially marked baseballs so they could find it in the stands though.
