I was surprisedd too the way he kicked our ass. But seems he's been in a slump and got piseed when he wasn't in the line up recently. Some one will pick him up. Best of luck to ya Big Hurt.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone picks him up either. Either as an injury replacement or for some pop off the bench.

Well it won't be for pop off the bench. If he were willing to play part-time he would still be in Toronto. Interesting to see which of the 14 AL teams would give him a shot, because I'm sure as hell that no NL team is going to let him play first. I wouldn't even be surprised if a NPB Pacific League team went after him. He could make some money over there, for himself and his team.

Since his use is obviously limited to DHing and playing first like two games a season, I dont really see what his options are. Almost every team in the AL seems to have the DH spot solidly filled. I guess Tampa Bay, with Floyd on the DL, or maybe Minnesota could plug him in at DH, but I dont see either of those teams, especially the Rays, making that kind of financial commitment.

You're telling me a team like LAA wouldn't take a flyer on him as a DH?

The Angels? With Matthews, Hunter, Anderson, and Guererro, they have four very good hitters for three outfield positions. That fourth spot can be rotating DH. The last thing they need is an aging, fragile power hitter who wont settle for playing part time.

Good points. I forgot they signed Matthews. What a s***** deal.

All I have to say is good. He has crushed Sox pitching so far this year when we played Toronto so he's out of the A.L East and that's all that matters. Surprised that Toronto would just release him like that though.

With Jose Vidro their current best option at DH' date=' Ill be surprised if Seattle doesnt make a run at him[/quote']

Oh yeah, I forgot about them. Probably a tossup for destination then...Seattle or Minnesota.

Just looked that up, he hasnt played a game at 1B in more than four years!!!!Even in that season he only played 4 games.

Over his career, in 19 seasons hes played 971 career cames at 1B, averaging 51 games a season.......I know he hasnt played much 1B over the last 5 or so years, but I never realized it was that drastic. In fact, over his career, hes only played 3 seasons out of 19 where he had more than 100 appearances at a 1B'man

Frank Thomas signs on to return to Oakland for the rest of the season. Salary undisclosed at this point.

Link?

If true, great to hear: he'll help the very young Oakland team with his personal variety of fierce professionalism, not to mention his ability to hit a little bit.

The salary would almost certainly be MLB minimum--he gets the rest from Toronto.

DBTH.

I think its this

don’t believe the hype

Exactly.

Frank Thomas had that scrawled on his locker his rookie year to help keep himself grounded. IMO, his career has reflected those four words very well.

Were I the Angels, I'd be concerned. As a Red Sox fan, I'm happy to see Thomas vacating the AL East.

Yeah but should we have to face Anaheim in the ALDS (AGAIN) this year, it could pose a threat during the games played at Fenway, don't you think?

Nah. Anaheim won't be that much better for having faced Thomas so often. ;)

If Oakland beats out Anaheim for the AL West berth to the ALDS and we face the A's, I'll be nervous that Frank Thomas is supporting the young team, but if Oakland's talent, especially its young pitching, gels two years early and they win, we're all in trouble anyway.

Accordingly, no change...no worries. :D
