This has to be about the gayest thread in the history of TalkSox. As if someone has the ability to increase or decrease a team's winning percentage by being the one who starts a thread.

I propose we ban Yeszir forever.

You hear that, you Escargots and Brie lover?

Yo, Gom:

I like escargot.

I like Brie.

I like them with wine, too.

I like escargot with pinot noir. I like Brie with Vouvray. I like the sauteed kidneys of Yankees fans with a fine Sauterne.

So you think that makes me gay?

If you ate a guys kidney, I think that makes you Chuck Norris.

About the thread being "gay," why don'tcha pick up a dictionary and learn you some better adjectives, clown.

Besides, it's at least entertaining.

Much in the same way we are told to avoid the livers of lobsters from polluted waters, the livers of Yankee fans should be avoided at all costs.

Here I am think this is just a nice red sox fan board and it turns out I'm actually participating in a cannibalistic cult. Great.

Considering last year's performance it wouldn't surprise me if he was using recently. He's probably off it now with the recent calls for stricter testing but he's always been in the back of my head as a juicer.

Barry Bonds is not a consideration for Boston even if David Ortiz's injury becomes long-term. Rosenthal believes Adam Dunn could be on the radar under that scenario.

We all know the Tribe is starting to fall back and there have been rumblings that the Tribe might be willing to move CC at the deadline and try to contend with what they have left.

I'm not surprised about this considering the price tag he will have hanging from him next off season. I figure the Yanks will be in on him of course, but there was something I heard that made me kinda go huh. Jayson Stark on Mike and Mike this morning said the tribe was willing to listen on offers for CC and have already begun to seriously scout other teams farm systems. What surprised me was that he said that the Guardians scouts are scouting the Sox farm system very hard. More so then any other organization. I found this odd because of the Sox depth at pitching and there young pitching, is there really a need for CC for 1/2 a season? Would the Sox even be interested in him at this point? And how much would they be willing to deal for a half season rental. Also say they do trade for him, I don't see them giving him the big $ contract hes going to go after. We didn't do it for Santanna, i don't see them doing it for CC. So I can't see them giving up what the Tribe is gonna want for him. I just thought it odd that Stark was so adimit about the Guardians interst in the Sox farm system.

Whats everyone else say on this matter?

Cleveland will already get two top-40 draft picks for C.C., so they will be looking for more. Now, that more can be two other top-prospects that are more advanced (AA or higher), or more than two less advanced top prospects (high-A or lower), or some combination thereof. The team trading for him will likely want to work out an extension so that they get him for longer than just the 1/2 year rental.

I think this is the wrong thing to do if the Sox are involved. I don't like his conditioning and think it will become more of an issue in future years. Therefore, the calculus becomes should they give up the "more" to go hard after a title this year? Well, let's first consider what the "more" is likely to be.

I figure, in terms of minor league talent as of the start of the season, if it's only two players, they'll likely have to be Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson / Michael Bowden. Because of Pedroia and Lugo's contract, Lowrie is probably expendable. Losing Masterson or Bowden would hurt, I think. Don't forget, though, they would then be getting the two top-40 picks, and next year's draft class is looking like a deep one. So, the net "loss" is the time it takes to advance prospects drafted in '09 to the level Lowrie and Masterson / Bowden are at now and the risk that they never advance that far. When you look at their most recent drafts and consider how many of their early picks still haven't broken out, that seems like a decent amount of risk. That said, given the state of the roster / farm, I think it's one they can live with.

What if it's more bodies but at lower levels, like say, Anderson, Lin, and Bowden? Lin? A potential future CF - expendable because of Ellsbury (Kalish, Westmoreland - if he signs). Anderson? Best power prospect in the system - his loss would hurt, but he's not that advanced and he could be replaced in the draft (theoretically). Bowden? Probably their best pitching prospect right now despite Masterson's MLB performance, but if they are able to keep Masterson, this doesn't hurt too much at all (given the age of '09 internal rotation options) - toughest to replace because of advanced level of play. These guys are all 1st round talent, but they'd get two more of those in return, so it's a move they can live with.

The big question is, do they need him? The current rotation features Beckett, Lester, Wake, Colon, and Masterson, with Matsuzaka, Buchholz, and Schilling (possibly) ready to step in when needed. He's better than all but Beckett, and that is some serious depth, but I don't think it is their area of weakness. It is not likely to be what prevents them from defending the title. I think the middle-relief issue and the Ortiz issue should figure first and foremost in their transaction manuevering. Don't spend to fix what really isn't broken. Focus on the flaws.

I called CC's poor playoff showing last year and I don't like his weight. I want a guy who can pitch in october, with the weight he already carries around, I think it could be tough for him to also be carrying around 200+ innings at the end of the season. No, thanks.

I don't think that is an issue they would be helpless against if they were to acquire him, though, given the current depth. And, think about it. If they are fighting for their playoff lives, he helps because he's really good and he probably gets them into October. If they aren't, then he can skip a start or two and have light work loads in September so he's fresh. So, I don't see that being an issue if handled properly (if they were to acquire him - which I don't think is necessary, but it wouldn't hurt).

I aslo think that SP is not the issue for the Sox at the moment. MRP and a bat if Ortiz can't go the rest of the season is the issue of the moment. I mentioned in the Ortiz thread that a few writers out there believe the Sox will go after Dunn if Ortiz can't play. Not sure who's out there who could really be of some assistance at Middle relief.
