It really is amazing how much velocity Ohlie picked up as a reliever. He apparently threw 90s in college, then was converted to the rotation, where he sat high 80s-90. Now that he's back in the pen, he's throwing 95 mph sinkers. Wow.

thats why its not full of rookies
Three rookies in a pen is "full of rookies as far as I am concerned." It's not like the others like Traber and Bruney are very accomplished. Your vets, Farnsworthless and Latroy are dogs.

4 veterans have locked down spots with the setup spot being in the hands of a very capable kid in Joba. The lesser experienced kids like Alby and Ohlie will get weaned in.
Who are the third and fourth veterans?

Rivera' date=' Farns, Hawkins, Traber and even Bruney.[/quote']I view it as two vets that have become s***: Farns and hawkins. Traber and Bruney ... vets? They barely qualify as journeymen.

Wow, Hawkins sucks.

Here is my prediction. We are down 9-4 right now. The Rays will stay away from Reyes in the 8th due to the lead. We'll get 3 in the 8th, then get one off Percival before dying 9-8 in the ninth.

With veterans like that there is no time to "wean" the rookies in. They will be thrown right into the fire.

For the first half of the yr, the 8th and 9th are locked down with Joba and Mo. This is what I mean by weaning them in. We arent asking them to be the setup man or the closer. By the time Joba is ready to go to the rotation, one of them may be ready to step up.

Well a700, it all depends on the situation. If our rotation comes together well, then moving Joba to the rotation may not be in the best interests of this club. If our pen falls apart, then keeping Joba in the pen may be the best way to go. It also depends on what the kids do. We have a good amount of young pen arms knocking on the door and a few who'll be knocking on the door later in the yr. We also have a couple starting pitchers knocking on the door and we'll see how they do in AAA (Sanchez, Horne, Marquez). There are more options this yr. We'll just have to figure out which options pay off and which ones hit bust.

You can't have the entire weight of the bullpen on a 37 year old closer. I hope Joba goes into the rotation. It would be a terrible move for the bullpen, and maybe even a terrible move for joba's career.

A terrible move for his career? He has 3 lights out pitches and the frame to handle the workload. You have to see if he fails in the rotation before you mandate him to the pen for his career. Relievers have shorter careers and shorter workloads. I'd much rather have Joba in the rotation long term.
