Well thank you for s***ing on ORS for me.

Oh and btw, go fist yourself, Kilo. You f***ing pussy. You're more useless than a single turd floating in a Fenway Park toilet.

Mental. Midget.

OK my mistake. Like I said I wasn't too familiar with the background of the movie. But still I think you're looking too much into it. And how does knowing that Crystal has been a ifelong Yankee fan make me a phony?

I'd like you to demonstrate how I call you phony there. I believe I mentioned the claim to "know" anything was phony. That's it.

As for Crystal's hommage to the Mets for support of Comic Relief, I stand corrected. There just wasn't much public portrayal of his love for the Yankees prior to '96.

So I don't KNOW firsthand through personal conversations with the man, but in many appearances, behind the scenes work for 61*, and other interviews he displays a true love of his team and strong knowledge. Enough for me to know he's a Yankee fan. It's the same as how I "know" you, or others on this board are Red Sox fans. Sure, a lot of people here weren't Sox fans pre-'04, but some you can just tell have lived and died with the team for year. Go rent 61* and watch the special features and Crystal will amaze you, as he did me. For a while I thought he was just another celebrity showing his face and associating himself with a sports team without having any REAL allegiance. That is not the case.

And as for there not being much portrayal of his love for the Yankis pre-'96 you're simpy mistaken. He made many appearances with his boyhood hero turned close friend Mickey Mantle, in which he shares that sentiment. .

61* is a fantastic movie.

my sentiments exactly. this is so far from being something worth getting riled up over. would anyone care if Ben Affleck played an inning for the Sox in ST this year?

YES! f*** Ben Affleck, I don't want him or Farrell or Matt Damon or anyone of these posers out there.

I will say this...Billy Crystal handled himself well...fouled one off, went down swinging, good for him. Just glad it was the Yankees pulling this ploy and not the Sox.

Garth Brooks played a few games two separate occasions in ST. I dont have a problem with it. It is one AB of a meaningless game. Its a publicity stunt.

He did it for charity.

THEN WE CAN ALL GET OUR OFFICIAL YANKEE CARD SO WE CAN PROVE WE ARE YANKEE FANS AND ONLY FOR 19.99 WHAT A f***IN STEAL!!! CAN I ALSO GET MY POWDER BLUE HAT AND BE ON A CELL PHONE DURING THE GAME LIKE A f***ING DOUCHE!!!

You act as if most Sox fans enjoy that s***.

Yeah seriously all the Red Sox nation and Sox appeal crap makes me sick to my stomach. I will say listening to Don and Jerry talk about Sox appeal is actually quite humorous though, basically because they are making fun of it.

What's everyone's malfunction with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon? Damon is Cambridge born and raised and Affleck, although born in California, moved to Mass as a small child and has strong Boston ties.

The Jimmy Fallon thing I can understand...kid was born in Brooklyn...his only ties to Boston were created on-screen in Fever Pitch (which, I think, gets a bad rap...it didn't deserve any Academy Awards, but it's a helluva lot more enjoyable than most of the s*** your girlfriend will make you watch.)

People that paint Affleck and Damon out as posers are, I think, just jealous of their seats, their girls, and their bank accounts.

If one of those guys gets to take a few hacks in a Spring Training game in 25 year or whatever when they turn 60, I couldn't really care less.

Get off your moral high horse. Any time anyone's remotely critical you come in and play the "knight in shining armor" role.

You really want to know why people dislike Ben Affleck?

I'm not on any kind of high horse nor am I attempting to be a knight in shining armor. People just make ridiculous statements and don't back them up. I think it's important to have a reality check once in a while.

i would hope if ben affleck had a day to lead off for the sox someone would drill him in the kidneys to end this ********

what next?

suzy waldman catching clemens at an old timers game?

Uh, ok, Freud, you figured it out.

Ever give any credence to the thought that some Red Sox fans don't want their team to treat spring training as a time to f*** around with celebrities using their...well, celebrity...to feed their own forlorn desires to play ball with the big guys?

Let these f***ers do the Sox Fantasy Camp, but keep 'em out of Spring Training.

So because Billy Crystal took one at-bat leading off a Spring Training game in early March against the Pirates, the Yankees don't take their Spring Training seriously? I can't wait until it's late September and we're in the midst of a pennant race, we'll really have a leg up!

thats not my beef

my beef is these celebs are mia on a tuesday nite in may against kc but are in the front row in october as if they were always there

Not remotely my point.

Many "fans" apparently like these side shows. I don't like 'em and I certainly don't need 'em to maintain my interest in baseball, or any other sport, for that matter. It's a distraction, its self-serving of the celebrity and its gimmicky on the part of the team.

Personally, if it were me? I'd say hey Sox, let me go out in the outfield and shag fly balls during BP...no uniform necessary, no fanfare required...just let me go out and play for a while, incognito, and maybe take some BP too. That'd be fun.

One day contract? fkn joke.

thats for damn sure.

there are a few devoted celebrity fans though, however few and far between.

It was a spring training game, the same time of year when games end in ties after 9 innings. If these games meant that much they would play them out until a winner was decided.

just like regular people, celebrities have other priorities as well, probably more important ones so just like id be willing to miss a KC game in May on TV if I have something else, id be far more likely to clear my schedule for an October game.

How do you figure?

meaning their obligations to their profession varies at all hours of the day and all days of the week (ie. charity events, filming, travelling, promotional appearances, etc.) whereas for a lot of us, we'll miss a game to go to dinner or a movie with a girlfriend or wife

for example, if Billy Cystal is filming a movie for 3 months in Los Angeles, it would make sense that he wouldn't travel to New York to take in the Royals

Posted
How do you figure?

I think the more relevant question would be how do you not figure?

I find it extraordinarily hard to believe you're at 81 games a year. What gives you a sponsor's exemption to the June/July games, but doesn't give the same to celebrities?

Look, I'm not defending Crystal, Affleck, Damon, or anyone else in particular...I'm just saying that it's not fair to dismiss them off as fair-weather fans. Much like there are die hard Sox fans who buy their girl a pink hat because that's all she'll wear...there are celebs who live and die with the team like we do. There are exceptions to every rule.

and like anything else priorities for these pampered f***s change with the flow of the tv cameras and papparazi.

important and other priorities?

im doing history with a frustrated 10 yr old girl who responds to my

""its history it happened how can you not get it""

with

ya dad it happened but it aint happenin ..

i would like to see j-lo handle that with a fleet of cameras blasting away at her swiftly losing composure....

i understand why theyre their in october

i just resent the fact that they are more important than us,the bread and butter of the franchise, the guys staggering thru a 9-5 gig who fight thru the mass pike and drop a weeks pay to get inside for a game
