Members of the 2007 World Series champion Red Sox gathered on the White House lawn this afternoon and were honored by President George W. Bush.

Among those missing from the proceedings was Manny Ramirez, whose absence was noted by Bush.

"Sorry ... Manny Ramirez isn't here, it's because his grandmother died again," Bush joked.

Slugger David Ortiz, an odd sight in eyeglasses, carried the World Series trophy into the ceremony. Captain Jason Varitek presented Bush with a Red Sox jersey that read "Bush" on the back with the number "07".

The president also referred to Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester's successful battle against cancer as an inspiration to many people. Lester began the 2007 season on a rehab minor league assignment, but recovered and won Game 4 of the World Series against the Colorado Rockies.

After the ceremony, the Sox were headed to Walter Reed Army Medical Center to visit wounded veterans.

Infomration from the Associated Press was used in this report.

I liked it when Bush told Pap "thanks for wearing pants."

As for Manny, it wasn't mandatory to go, so he elected not to. I wish meetings at work were this easy to get out of. I'd never go to a single one.

Singling out ace hurler Daisuke Matzuzaka, Bush made reference to the large group of Japanese reporters who were on hand, joking, "His press corps is bigger than mine." He then noted another similarity he said he shares with "Dice K": "We both have trouble answering questions in English."

Ha...Bush is a good guy...to be friends with. Not the type you want controlling your military/responsible for the economy/anything other responsibility he currently holds, but a good old boy I wouldn't hate going to the bar with. His presidency can't end soon enough, but a good showing today.

thats why he got elected twice

he ran against 2 complete jerk offs who were too aloof and condescending to the public.

if al gore won his own home district in tennesee he wouldve been on his 2nd term and little corkey bush wouldve been delegated to f***ing up one of the businesses his saudi goombahs gave him.

alas americans like the john wayne types, even if these john wayne types are figments of a propaganda machine that can turn a male cheerleader who was awol for his flight physical into captain america.

jesus christ almight this country needs a bitch slap

I've said the same in the past...the Democrats should look within and kick their own collective asses for not being able to come up with a candidate who could defeat the former 'C' student. The only thing more embarrassing than Bush himself is, well, the clowns the Dems sent to bat against him. Good god, Gore and Kerry? Disgraceful.
