Except over half of those players weren't with the Orioles during the Yankees' championships. That's the time we're referring to' date=' no?[/quote']

I would say that the 'steroids era' would go from around 1998 up until 2004 or 2005, when they first started testing more seriously. Wouldn't you agree Kilo? I just use home run totals from a guy like Sosa as a guideline.

Nevermind, my mistake. He was referring to the era; I thought he was initially just referring to the 3-year span of Yanks' championships.

I think it stopped when players were getting hauled in to testify before a grand jury. That happened afte 2003. In 2004, there were a bunch of guys who went cold turkey. Giambi claimed that he had given up Big Macs. Hey, maybe he was referring to his mentor Mark MGwire. He used to be called Big Mac.

Depends on what you want to call the steroids era.

If the era means when use of PEDs was rampant? I'd say that goes from about 1995 to now.

If the era refers to anytime that PEDs were being used by at least a few players? My guess is early 80's.

BTW, IMO we're still in the PED era...guys will just be more selective in whom they do business with and how they cover their tracks...and they won't be stupid enough to write checks.

Try the 1980's. I believe this poster was from 1988:

They were juicing in Oakland, definately. I played college baseball from 1985-1988, and played both with and against guys that I had first hand knowledge were training with steroids. If college players were "smart" enough to be using them for a competitive advantage, you can bet your butt the pros were both aware of them and using.

I still can't believe Bagwell's name has never come up.

It's come up, but not in any formal report. It really doesn't matter who got named in t he report, except to those individuals who were named. They got burned, but too damn bad. The use of the stuff was rampant during those years. It was ridiculous when you started seeing middle infielders like Boone and Tejada growing 20 inch necks and hitting one-handed Home Runs to the opposite field. The whole era was dirty.

Agree Yaz...I posted elsewhere about my experience working in a gym in the mid 80's where HS athletes, college athletes, and regular Joes were constantly approaching us for juice. The s*** has been in use a long, long time.

Or even Biggio's. I've stated in the past on a few occasions that I have knowledge that Biggio has at least tried steroids (don't know how frequent his use was) with Caminitti.

Is this knowledge only in your head or up your ass also?

Hahahahhaa, I'm just cracking a joke on how you worded your post.

Seriously though, what's your source on that? I'm curious. Not that I'm suggesting he didn't, because I've always just suspected everyone anyway.

what about all world jeff bagwell?

another of a long line of studs who quickly faded after the 2003 screening began?

as far as petite goes

i respect his admission but find his statement somewhat insulting to my intelligence

""if i let people down"

if i

if i

what the f*** andy...you came forward with a good story, one that is easy to swallow but instead of being very humble you act as if it was like borrowing the neighbors lawn mower without asking...IF YOU?

i respect the rest of his mission

andy petite was one of the yanks i really respected and considered a money guy

a class guy..he started losing my good will when he began following clemens like a lap dog

hes the kind of old school yank who should retire in stripes and play for no one else

hes outta the fire somewhat now

his mentor however refuses to come down to earth and take his lumps

I'm really not at liberty to get into specifics, but I will tell you that it's firsthand knowledge from a former Astros teammate I know who on occasion did it with Biggio and Cammy. Never mentioned anything about Bagwell though, not to say he didnt do it.

Thats the most i've ever volunteered on the subject, so be gracious you chowderheads!

My issue with his "admission" includes not only the "if I" statement, but also the notion that he did it to get back and help the team ("I felt an obligation to get back to my team as soon as possible. For this reason, and only this reason....). ********.

Pettitte spins before Roger. They will whine that they only took it to get over injuries. They'll whine that they only took it a few times. They got caught. They are cheaters, and they have to spin, because after their playing days are over, the only asset they have is their names. Clemens and Pettitte's names are permanently stained. They can swear on bibles that they sat on the needles by mistake, but they are still sullied. Too bad for the Whore and the Hypocrite. What about the other 10 Yankee champions. They didn't inhale either. Cheaters! Their championship banners should have syringes embroidered on them.

I see a new slogan for the '96, '98-2000 Champs: "Champion Cheaters of the Steroid Era." The fans can be proud. Give the team a monument for Monument Park.

wait, what was that? We should embroider syringes on yankee championship banners? I bet you wish to take this comment back

Are you going to stop doing this? This act is pretty ridiculous.

Jackson, the funny thing about Federal investigations is that it has a way of changing behavior that is being investigated. I'll bet scores of guys went off the juice when BALCO went down. That's why Giambi, Brown and Sosa (DL'ed from a sneeze) were experiencing withdrawal You are a Doc. You know the terrible side effects that can occur from weaning off too fast. I don't think we are going to hear much about post 2003 usage precisely because the Feds were prosecuting people. Daylight is the greatest disinfectant.

As for Clemens not being a major part of your 98-2000 run, that is revisionist history for sure. Maybe they'll preserve the Yankee clubhouse/crack den as a historical reminder of this sordid time in Baseball history.

the good thing is, they still have the red sox lockerroom if they want to revisit steroid usage. Yankee stadium may be gone, but I bet you could find a few needles hidden in Papi's locker stashed away for a rainy day.

Actually, it isnt ridiculous. I am burning those who tried to take the righteous road when our guys went down for PED usage. I am not about to throw everyone here under the bus because a good amount of posters just considered it a sign of the times. That is what it is. The fact that BOTH big time sluggers were on the juice right BEFORE the world series titles makes it even sweeter.

If Pettitte is such a reputable guy' date=' why did he decide to come back to pitch in NY and leave his family behind in Texas? I thought he wanted to be close to his family. Did he come back to serve the humanitarian purpose of helping the Yankees and their fans to World Championship #27-- sorry I meant #23?[/quote']

does this mean 1918 is relevant again? Just wondering.

Fine. As long as you don't generalize and respond directly to specific posters, that's fine. Just please don't try to start a flame war.

I agree though, some of the comments some of these posters made are ridiculous. I'm glad, though, that most of the posters here don't have to eat crow.

It's one thing to discuss it and what it means for baseball, but I absolutely HATE when issues that are much larger than Red Sox and Yankees get discussed from the rivalry's perspective. It annoys the f*** out of me.

how bout when the two biggest sluggers on two championship teams are exposed? Oh boy, dredging up the past is FUN!

This goes against everything you just said. You know a statement like this will get more people angry than just who you are responding to.

all of these posts are directed at the people who made the post. I am quoting each post and then providing my take on it. This should be considered solely a burn to those who made the comment

Okay, but a statement like "does this make 1918 relevant again?" is going to be responded to by more than just the person you're targeting.

This = ok. The 1918 statement = not. See how there's a difference in rebutting what someone says, versus bringing the rivalry back into it?

This is the caveat that I am making right now. Listen, a ton of sox fans reacted like I am about Manny and Ortiz. I dont care. I truly dont care. But those who made stupid comments about our championships being tainted and about how ARod is a disgrace to the game will get burned.

So you contend A-Rod is NOT a disgrace to the game?

There's much than the PEDs to his case.

Okay, good. I know a ton of Sox fans reacted that way. That's fine. But don't react to those posters in a way that is likely to get the other fans upset. Your intent to only respond to one poster is one thing, but when it is read by others it is not read as a direct rebut to that one poster.

The Red Sox fans who made a big deal to use the Yankees' PEDs as an excuse to taint their championships are stupid, and so are the Yankees fans who are doing it now to try to bring 1918 back to life.
