The "Francona' Rule

Red Sox manager Terry Francona officially has a rule named after him.

 

“There’s going to be, for lack of a better term, a ‘Francona Rule,’” said Bob Watson, Major League Baseball’s Vice President of Rules and On-Field Operations. “You can only wear your uniform top or jacket. You can’t wear your night-shirt, or whatever it is. You can wear it before games, or after games, but not during games. You have to have your uniform top at all times.”

 

No more pullover for Francona.

 

When asked if teams had been notified of the development Watson said, “They will be informed. There will be no doubt.”

Watson is being a dick because of Francona's reaction to the Yankee game where the official came into the dugout DURING the game to see if Francona was wearing his jersey but still, it's pretty damn unprofessional

Was it Watson that wanted the Sox to clean up their helmets a few years ago?

Did Watson rule that Pesky could no longer stay in the dugout?

If you're asking "who cares that he insulted Francona" then I can only answer for myself and say I care a little...I think Watson is a total jackass.

Oh I know I know, I'm not gonna get all superstitious over it. But I'm serious, Watson can take the rule and shove it somewhere in New York.

The sales of those "nightshirts" by MLB help pay for Watson's overblown salary. This is as dumb a rule as there is in sports. There is no rational reason for any coach to have a uniform and a number on his back. I hope Tito wears the jacket and let the bat boys wear the "nightshirts" in protest all year.

I think it ridiculous how many rules modern day sports are implementing. The NFL is turning into the no-fun league and has the worst officiating crews in all of sports. MLB has been pretty bad in regards to what you can and can't wear, and now this crap.

Maybe MLB should implement a pregame inspection and a 7th inning stretch neaten-up and they could also stop the players from spitting, scratching and blowing their noses.
