This is the 3rd season the DHL award has been around, both years prior had gone to Mariano Rivera. I know there are some who are trying to pencil in Papelbon in the 2008 rotation... but if you have something this good, why change it? In a couple of years he'll be on track to be the saves leader in Boston history, and well sky is the limit for this young stud

He's the closer, and I really don't see a scenario where they could get someone to replace him outside of KROD. JUst look at him hes ment to be a closer, his Fing head would explode from having to tone down the intensity:papelbon:

I don't think there's any thought of starting him after this year.

 

Good for Paps. It's undeserved, but good for him. Putz had a better year.

There are select people I know at work and friends, plus Ive seen couple posters still yearning to see him as a starter

 

Agreed, surprised it was Papelbon and not Putz (I had voted for Putz as well). Alas it was a public ballot so Im sure the hordes of "Red Sox Nation" made sure he got the award

Papelbon would be excellent in the rotation or (obviously) as the closer. At the beginning of 2007 it was a different story. Nobody knew what would become of Jon Lester. We had to turn to Julian Tavarez being in the rotation.

 

Now with Clay Buchholz, Lester becoming healthy, Hagadone, Bowden, and Masterson looking to make big steps....we have more options.
