That post made no sense what so ever. I know Giambi is playing first base - that might be some defensive liability for the Yankees.

I do not like Veritek - and I have my reasons also known as stats.

Stats? You mean how you're a 100% idiot when it comes to thinking defensively?

I have a policy of not responding to stupid posters that start namecalling - so this is my last reply to you. Tek can't throw out anyone on second if he tries to steal.

And his smart catching doesn't make up for that?

Go back to Los Angeles and play with Fred.

The least you could do is spell Varitek's name correctly.

As far as Varitek on the defensive side...he has caught 3 no hitters in his career and almost had a 4th with Schilling this season. How many catchers do you know call as good a game as Varitek?

Also did you see the excellent catch he made today to get out of the bases loaded jam, could have changed the look of the game had he not made that play.

You have fair points - I still would rather have someone else as our catcher. I think that his hitting has become aweful - and his intangibles like pitch calling have declined recently.

To me my fav Tek moment will be confrontation with A-Rod in 2004 - I wish he would have done better in last 3 seasons with his bat.

At last A-Rod got a hit - only to be undone by another double play.

If we meet Cleveland in ALCS - it will be tough series. I lived in Cleveland from 2004- 2006 and I have kinda watched this young team develop under Wedge. They are definitely my second favourite team.

I'd rather face Cleveland than the Yankees. The Yankees just scare me; they always have.

I understand some people may not be too pleased with the Varitek stats (even though they are still good for a catcher) he brings much more to the table that stats can't explain. Last season Jason Varitek was injured and in turn, our pitching staff struggled and we missed the playoffs.

Strange coincidence that the three years before that when he was healthy we made it to October baseball and now this season with a healthy Varitek we are off to the ALCS.

BTW that is also my favorite Varitek moment. Changed the course of the season.

Trick hammy sighting. How many pitches till he pulls himself? Oh, and kudos to Crunch, he called it.

It didn't help that 3/5 of our rotation went down also though. We had Jason Johnson, Devern Hansack, and Kyle Snyder starting games for us. Jason Varitek would not have won us those games.

No argument there - also I don't think it will be a cakewalk if we meet the Rockies or D-backs either.

Agreed. Nothing is a cake walk. My preferable path through the playoffs would be to face Cleveland in the ALCS and Arizona in the World Series though. Arizona would be our easiest match-up. I don't think they'd be nearly as difficult as any of the other playoff teams.

I'm not saying he would have been the difference but with his bat in the lineup and his ability to get a pitcher through a game strictly by his game calling....we will never know.

Point is Jason Varitek's value to the Boston Red Sox can never be underestimate.

Roger just retire, close out your career and come to the Hall of Fame ceremony in 5 years. I dont want to go through next season's 1st half hearing will Roger or wont he?

About Torre... Sad to see him out of sorts, the guy has looked plain out tired this past season. Its just as well that this is his last season as well

The crowd is out of it - looks like a funeral taking place at Yankee stadium.

Bring out the last sweep of the DS.

Not every team can get a .500 starter that can give them a solid 4.25era, 5.5 innings a start... for 1/2 a year... for under 28 million... Let alone a starter who can last 2+ innings in the playoffs.

Simply marvelous. What grit. What determination. What a phony. And, he still gets ballwashed by the intentionally clueless media.
