I only got to watch the Sox game, but to me the TBS coverage was awful. The announcers called this game like it was April. Steve Stone actually has a good reputation, but he seemed off his game and the guy calling the game was just dull, and the guy down on the field couldn't finish a complete sentence. I'm runnign for radio on Friday.

I agree, I hate TBS coverage. Always have, even their Braves coverage up until this season.

To think, that after how much I used to hate ESPN division series telecasts that I WISH ESPN had the games over TBS. And to think, we have every DS game and one CS. Plus all of their national coverage in the coming years.

Hopefully they can improve things there. Give them the benefit of the doubt, they've been broadcasting playoff baseballfor a preeeeeety short while. Now that they dont have the Braves anymore they can devote a lot of attention to the quality of their coverage over the next what, seven years I believe.

I didn't think the announcers were terrible....but TBS needs to do something about missing the first out of every inning because their still on a commercial break!

I looked at it from the point of view that at least I didn't have to listen to Buck and McCarver. That's a win in my book.

Buck I don't mind, but McCarver drives me nuts. I don't understand why we don't have Garigiola and/or Scully. Those guys are such a treat to listen to.

I actually didn't mind it. They will have some bumps in their first year, but they will get it cleared up. Orsillo/Simpson is way better than last night's team, but if you ask me both TBS broadcast partners are better than ESPN or Fox for the most part. They talk game instead of BS. And I don't know if anyone esle noticed, but TBS actually blew off a commercial break in the 6th inning to go back to Ripken in the studio for a breakdown. Would ESPN or Fox do that??? Actually blow off advertising dollars so they could have studio breakdown between innings? Hellz no. I want more TBS!

But yes, the announcers for the Sox/Angels series should do a better job going forward...

I didn't care for the TBS coverage of the games. I still think the best coverage for the playoffs is on FOX.

I think it was in the fifth inning when Stone suggested Lackey hit Ortiz with a pitch in the hip on a 3-1 count. The other guy said nothing.

The combination of Ernie Johnson and Cal Ripken in the studio break is awesome. Ernie Johnson's the man and you can actually learn something from Cal. He's no Charles Barkley (who, obviously, does TNT's NBA studio show with EJ and Kenny Smith) in terms of entertainment but he's great at it. Frank Thomas seems a little uncomfortable but so far he hasn't been all that good -- I'll give him a little bit to possibly loosen up before I judge him too much.

I like the graphics package... simple, easy to read, no annoying beeps and scrolling text like you'd see on FOX. No McCarver... I actually kind of like Buck, though. The announcers tonight weren't all that great -- Steve Stone is usually good, but I think he's best as part of a three man team. The play by play guy was stumbling over calls all night. No Joe Morgan, either.

BTW... good thing they made 50,000 different promos for Frank Caliendo's show or else those commercials would get old quick -- as it is, I love Caliendo so I really want to see it. I've noticed that TBS promotes their shows a tad bit much -- they did it with House of Payne too.

edit again: Orsillo's partner is already stumbling over his words. "If the Phillies go down 0-2, that'd be a really big mountain for them to climb out of"

TBS has seemed to found something out

TBS cameras caught Rockies closer Manny Corpas pouring a cup of water or soda on the front of his shirt before leaving the bullpen to pitch the ninth inning of Wednesday's game and then rubbing dirt on the area.

A stunning turn of events, if only because TBS actually was back in time for the first pitch of that inning. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Corpas appeared to go to the spot on his jersey before several of his pitches. It'd be illegal for him to intentionally apply a substance to his jersey for a better grip on the ball, though it'd hardly make him unique if he were doing it.

The trio doing the Yankees game today I thought were very solid. Robinson needs to stick to tennis. Stone was good, so is Darling doing the D-Backs game. Don and Simpson don't sound excited enough to be doing a playoff game. Mota needs to leave. Now.
