Linky.

Yeah, you actually can't do that. The Pats can't do what they did, and the Jets can't do what they did.

I didn't know it was illegal to mimick snap counts actually, but if it was, I wouldn't be shocked that Mangini did it. Apple doesn't fall too far away from the tree :D

Posted

Yeah. It's illegal because in a stadium of 30,000 screaming people, the opposing linemen screaming fake cadences will throw anyone off.

Look, I'm sure this happens a lot of times with many other teams, but I'm just going tit for tat. Jets' d-linemen = cheaters.

Didn't Roosevelt Colvin do this the other night?

2-8-SD44 (2:00) PENALTY on NE-R.Colvin, Defensive Delay of Game, 5 yards, enforced at SD 44 - No Play.

*71,000 ;)

Yeah, definitely illegal and definitely cheating. Unlike the defense, the offense doesn't go on the movement of the ball and usually aren't even looking at the ball. You get guys mimicking cadences and it gets confusing. Not only do you make these guys commit false starts, but it also creates a split second hesitation when the ball does actually gets snapped and creates a huge advantage. You can't do anything to try and bait the offense into a false start.

I really, really hate Mangini.

By the way, The new Tuesday Morning Quaterback article on ESPN makes a lot of claims about Belichick cheating -- anyone know where I can find any other information about this stuff?

And the Patriots' cheating might have been more extensive than so far confirmed. Fox Sports reported that former NFL players believe Belichick had microphones installed in the shoulder pads of defensive linemen so the Patriots could tape other teams' offensive audibles and line calls. Needless to say, putting microphones on players violates NFL rules. Andrea Kremer of NBC reported that several teams might charge the Patriots this week with having stolen playbooks from the visitors' dressing room. The convenient "malfunction" of visiting teams' headphones at the Patriots' two fields under Belichick seems to have happened far too often to be an IT department error. The rumor mill says Belichick, Richard Nixon-style, has file cabinets of info on opposing coaches and assistant coaches – some gleaned honestly, some obtained by cheating.

I guess I answered my own question... Fox Sports, I guess.

nfl coaches get younger and tend to have more formal education now than in the past

look at mangini and bb or sean payton

these men never played at any big time level but these men ate slept and drank the game 24/7/365 and are like closet video geeks in their passion for the game

what seperates the good from the great is the will and dedication to do whatever it takes

broken marriages

f***ed up kids

finance issues up the ass

then comes the heart bypass at 48

its a job for fukin lunatics and then some

would bb cut off a toe with a shrimp fork for another ring??

he's cut his daughters toes off for another ring, dont doubt it

thank god these men exist to bring the nfl to another level of competetion

I refuse to believe what See Red posted until its found true. Some of that is so extensive that I really doubt it happened' date=' but wow, if that is true, what the f***.[/quote']

And I don't either. I read that article and I just want to see if anyone has any links that would provide more insight into what the guy who wrote this article is talking about. I won't say it's not a possibility, but I don't mean to accuse them of anything -- I just want to see what support there is to this guys claims.

IF it is -- and that's a BIG IF -- Belichick would almost have to be kicked out of the League permanently, wouldn't he?

And Crunchy's right. College coaches are lunatic with the time they have to put into their profession... NFL coaches take it to an entirely different level of insanity.

If what See Red posted is true, I'm done with Belichick. Done. I would be so behind kicking him out of the league.

Anyway, in response to what Kilo said, I saw that play. He wasn't yelling anything, he made a motion with his hand after Rivers made a hard count, and Colvin took the bait. The movement was enough to almost get a lineman to move to create a false start, but it wasn't intentional. He didn't by any means mimic the snap count.

Hate to bring this up again but the new Tuesday Morning Quarterback article brings up an interesting point about the spygate situation -- more specifically, why the NFL, who pledged to get to the bottom of this issue, destroyed the tapes so quickly.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/070925&sportCat=nfl&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1

I find it extremely difficult to believe that this whole situation doesn't go a lot deeper than we know.

I think they said that to the public (getting to the bottom of Spygate), but I think Goodell knew it was prevalent around the league. I mean, he got his hands on some tapes and destroyed them, but I doubt he ever intended to make a huge deal out of it. He wanted to set a precedent, which he did, but I don't think the investigation was going to go deep.

Im not sure if that is exactly what he was doing.

I know the penalty for calling opposing cadences is a personal foul for unsportsmanlike conduct.

the spying issue has been buried by the nfl and the patriots forever

its over

the damage done the fines issued the draft picks taken and the payoff by kraft to the commisionars office is in the mail

bb is the best coach in history

and a man who would stab a child in the face for a win

Disagree. Bill Walsh has him. Almost every team in the NFL runs some form of Bill Walsh's West Coast offense -- it's a copycat league but none of the trends last this long unless there's really something to 'em -- Walsh was as brilliant as you will ever see patrolling an NFL sideline and his coaching tree is amazing to boot.

BB is up there obviously, but what keeps me from saying that he's the best coach ever is that for whatever reason, he can't beat the Broncos. Shanahan's always been a thorn in his side. For me to label someone as the best ever, they can't have thorns in their side.

warning

football guy about to go on and on

lets start with bill parcells, the genious the tuna the man who was on the phone with old man hess working out the details of his jets deal as his team prepped for the superbowl against green bay....

too bad

the defense played very well, the special teams and the offense failed us but belicheks defense held all world brett favre to 2tds.......lets move on

how many did parcells win without belichek??

head to head how to bb do against the tuna, cowher??dungee??

the pats won a superbowl as a 14 point dog after burying the steelers as a 7 point dog.....

on the road

the won 3-4 years

this year will be 4 in 7 and who knows where we end up at the end of the decade

gentlemen

this is in the era of the hard salary cap and the above #s havent been bested by anyone

bill walsh shula lombardi knoll landry and jjohnson included

kilo

cleveland was in the middle of moving their franchise and his team quit on him the fans quit and art modell gave a f*** less in 95.

blaming that scenario on his is ******** but maybe youre too young to remember.

if you were old enuff

do you remember 94??

if you recall when that cleveland team played the parcells and bledsoe led patriots cleveland dismantled us in the playoffs and bledsoe threw 4 pix

sox rules

whos going to win the grey cup this year??

those montreal alouettes are a force eh....

see red

can you give me a game where the pats were supposed to win in the playoffs and didnt??

i can give you a few that walsh shouldve won and didnt

the day that montana had his back broken by jim burt they were 3pt favorites and got beat by 46 in giants stadium...

gibbs beat him in the nfc championship game in 84,parcells then smoked him the following december.......they got beat by minnesota of all teams in 88.....

these games were all games the 49ers were favored in as they had the best football team in the game thru the 80s...believe me

ive been in the business of football for a very very long time and for me it isnt just bula bula,i have a vested interest in every team every game if you get my drift and bill belichek has cost me more money than the wife kids and irs combined...

i dont pick em

i just write down what you pick...

anyways walsh is a great coach,an innovative genious if you will and a guy who changed football and the role of eveyone on offense...i like bb better...

i liked gibbs better back in the day,he of the 1 back H back offense

he won with 3 s***** qbs as opposed to the pats and 49ers who have the best in the league

from the bowels of my mind i come up with 3 head to head matchups

see how belicheks defenses did against walsh in walshes prime and correct me if im wrong please

87 ny 49-3

85 ny 17-3

84 ny 21-10

hows walsh and his 5.33 pts per game in the playoffs looking against bb now??

anyways

i understand bb struggles against miami and denver but i think the pats will be ok

For one, Gibbs' struggle to adjust to the modern-day NFL hurts is legacy enough to drop him below the ranks of Walsh and company. Part of what makes great coaches great is an ability to adjust, no? I understand Daniel Snyder sucks at assembling teams, but the Skins ain't even been close.

I got the '84 49ers beating the Giants 31-10 in the regular season beating the Giants 21-10 in the postseason.

'85 is correct, but that was a 10-6 49ers team... hardly his best -- Jerry Rice's rookie year and as I understand it, the 49ers racked up more yardage than the Giants in that game... just couldn't cash in.

'87 the 49ers beat the Giants 41-21 in the regular season (I think it's obvious that BB had Walsh's number in that one), and the 49ers lost to the Vikings in the first round of the playoffs.

These are Walsh's point totals against the Giants from 1984 to 1988, his last year as head coach.

31, 21, 3, 17, 41, 20

edit: missed a year, there was another 3, and a 17 in there.

17 points a game is Bill Walsh getting shut down by Belichick? Walsh torched him as many times as Belichick shut him down. They were 10-5-1 the year they lost 49-3, so it wasn't one of his best teams to begin with, and they lost Montana in the second quarter -- not to say the game would've been close but I'm sure they'd have managed more than 3 points.

My point is, Crunchy... what in the hell are you talking about?! Aside from one game, I have Walsh doing extremely well against Belichick's defenses. And Seifert's 49ers went on to scorch the Giants defense the next year. And by the way, those 49ers teams had some great defenses ever. And I dare say that those 49ers Super Bowl teams would beat Belichick's Super Bowl teams pretty handily. Clutch kicker ain't worth s*** when you're down by three scores.

How about the fact that the Patriots missed the playoffs following their first Super Bowl?

I dont know , you tell me , you seem to be talking alot about the CFL , why you asking me ?

I dont watch the dam thing

By the way, Crunchy... we have no idea to what extent Bill Belichick has cheated and how long he's done it for -- the fact that the NFL destroyed those tapes quickly despite saying they would "get to the bottom of it" and the fact that they fail to give a good reason for doing so does seem extremely suspicious.

A Jets fan season ticketholder is filing a lawsuit against Belichick and the Patriots. Because Jets ticketholders were deceived from 2000 to the present, 8 "fraudulent" games in his words... he and his lawyer have determined that $184.8 million is deserving to be paid for what is consumer fraud

I hate frivolous lawsuits.

I hope they consider this vexatious litigation and he is unable to pursue any legal action in the future.
