I would argue Goodell runs a tighter ship than Tagliabue.

You're beating the dead horse. I'm sure it goes on all over the place, but the Patriots were the morons who got caught.

Right, they got caught and were punished....i'd like to move on. The reason i mentioned the Fox stuff today is they played the infamous tape and those were their comments on it

That and Goodell intentionally screwed over the Pats.

*Shakes head*

Look, I never brought this up before....but geez. They did something wrong, got caught, got punished, so let's move on. Enough with the commish now asking for more stuff (on gameday no less) with new punishments coming if anything is found. Instead of this being over the commish leaks the tape to Fox, and now will have this 'investigation' ongoing throughout the year. Just stupid

I never said that, your putting words in my mouth. I find it ironic that all this happens in NY with a team he used to work for....considering that according to coaches past and present this is pretty normal. I'm not saying that pats shouldn't have been punished.... just ironic who he is going after and that fact that he won't let it end with his ruling

You know what's stupid?

Getting caught cheating after you were warned not to do it in the offseason.

Especially coming off the heels of Pacman Jones and Michael Vick.

Taking a lot of luster of what could have been an excellent first week of football.

I have no problem with Goodell doing what he's doing. You'll scream "Anti-Pats Bias", but they brought it on themselves.

the commish asks for all the pats tapes from 2000 on....and then leaks the tape to the press! Nice control he's got over that office. Maybe when the commish calls and asks for the tapes, Kraft and BB just say "we took out the middleman and turned them over to FOX"

On a side note all of the Fox guys today said that all the teams round the league do this. Jimmy Johnson said he was taught to do the exact same thing (with a camera) 18 years ago in KC. Howie said "all those coaches who called out BB, are hypocrites"

It's over, i wish it would all just go away and we could get back to football

I highly doubt every single team does it. I'm sure the good people of San Francisco thinks that every single MLB player is on steroids also.

On another note...more charges levied against the Pats in conneciton with Spygate. Apparently there was a second cameraman operating on the grassy knoll.

Goodell would not respond directly to an NBC report about the Jets calling for a second investigation into the Patriots' actions in Week 1, noting there was a second camera and that they believe a defensive lineman was wired to pick up quarterback audibles.

Why look that far? The mirror ought to work with some Balco on your team as well.

You can check my posts. I have never let up on ripping Giambi and Sheff for the steroids usage. I would never excuse anyone for steroids abuse simply because they wearing the stripes.

Reading the responses on this thread has given me a much more healthy respect for SF Giants fans.

... no one has excused Belichick for cheating. It could have been a lot worse, and you know that this is blown out of proportion.

And not every Giants fan excuses Bonds, nor has every Pats fan excused Belichick. So, what's your point? You tried to make a smartass comment, but instead made a fool of yourself. It happens.

Oh I must have missed the posts where I said that.

Perhaps I was referring to how I can now see why Giants fans will still cheer for Bonds even though they know he's a cheater or maybe how they say it doesn't matter that he cheated since he would've hit those HRs anyway. Just maybe I was thinking about something other than what you were thinking.

I didn't say that at all. I just used to think that it was only Giants fans who couldn't see things clearly with Bonds and who have also made the same "overblown" defense. It's easier for me to see that this would be the case with any sports franchise whose hands get caught in the cookie jar regardless of how many other teams are doing it. I used to think of Bay Area reisdents who cheer for Bonds as blind and naieve idiots. I no longer think that :D

But what makes you different then, if that is all you were saying? My comment still applies. You don't need to look any further than the mirror if you were just commenting on fans rooting for known cheaters. Unless, are you telling me you don't root Giambi when he's at the plate? I don't think that's the case, and your reaction when I mentioned it suggests you are full of it with this excuse. You wanted no part being lumped into the crowd you were trying to poke fun at. You'll have to come up with something better, or just admit what was pretty obvious.

No I was commenting on fans who play the "everyone does it" excuse to pretend there is nothing wrong with cheating. You asked me a question about my personal feelings on the Balco boys to which I responded. I don't know how you equate "I don't excuse people for steroids abuse" to "everyone does it so it's ok".

I'm sorry, when I said look in the mirror, I wasn't refering to you specifically. That was a figurative statement for the whole Yankee fanbase. By comparing Pats fans to Giants fans for this, is a "you" and "them" statement. You conveniently left out Yankee fans who have done it for the other 2/3 of the Balco investigation. It's pretty hypocritical.

As far as the "everyone's doing it" argument, I doubt we'll see more of it from the NFL because teams doing it will be very cautious from here on out. And, you can ridicule it if you like, but given the volume of names that are coming out of the Grimsley and Albany cases, those people may have a point.

ah I see...well about the Yankee fans that I do know in real life and when I goto the stadium, I really don't hear the "everyone does it" argument except from a couple of people. I think the Yankee fans on this board are also pretty objective when discussing the Balco boys. the newspaper are also pretty objective about it. I won't say the NYYfans or YES forums are the same because I'm not there but my exposure to Yankee fans has seen a pretty objective outlook on the steroids issue and largely free of the "everyone does it" argument.

I don't believe the majority of players ar eon steroids, but you're right in that the Grimsley and Albany cases does tend to add to that perception.

Peter King estimated that there are about 10 teams actually doing the taping thing. I think the other 20 are probably pretending they do it to mess with the opponent. :D
