WEEI is reporting the Sox have picked up outfielder Brady Clark on waivers from the Dodgers. Clark will be assigned to Pawtucket.

He's 34 years old and his stats for the season are as follows:

G 47 | AB 58 | AVG .224 | HR 0 | RBI 5 | OBP .308 | SLG .2

start planning the parade route...

Is there any purpose to this move? Did Theo lose a bet or something?

RH bat that draws walks and play all 3 OF positions. Considering he gave nothing up but cash its a good move. It also looks lke there parting ways with WMP. Maybe the package him and Pinerio for something. Or maybe they try to pass him threw waivers to get him to the minors, or if someone picks him up the might just let him go.

I find it hard to believe that the Sox do not have someone better in their farm system right now than this guy. In Rookie ball.

True, maybe there planning on bringing one of them up, such as Moss, or Stern, Ellsbury, or trading one of them and they want to have a veteran in AAA just in case.

It's not like this is the one and only move we'll make to improve our team. As said he does draw walks and can play evrerywhere in the OF so why not since we're only giving up moolah. I guess maybe I'd prefer Kielty over Clark though, if this move does indeed nix the Kielty deal.

Whoops not Stern but the other OF that got called up earlier this season. His name evades me at the moment.

Edit: David Murphy is who I was trying to think of.

guess this puts the Kielty rumors to rest

Nope he's still in their sights. This isnt a major league deal as he will be assigned to Triple A. According to Sean MacAdams of the Providence Journal, part of the reasoning is because Ellsbury is going on the DL. He still sees the Sox getting Kielty or another outfielder, with Clark rather joining the team in September

Another reason for the move is that Jacoby is injured so they need another CF in case something happens to Crisp. If he plays well over the next month, he may get a September call up.
