At least Danks is not a soft tossing lefty. Intriguing matchup. This will mark the 4th time this week a pitcher has made his first career start vs Boston, how often does this happen? Hopefully Gabbard can out duel the other young southpaw.

EDIT: Ortiz out of today's lineup, his shoulder will be examined by Dr. Thomas Gil. Tito noted that when Manny saw he was hitting 3rd that there was a big smile on his face. Lineups have been updated.

John Danks (1 game vs Boston, 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA---Career at Fenway Park in 1 game, 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA)

Jason Varitek, 1 for 3 (.333 avg)

Coco Crisp, 2 for 3 (.667 avg) 3 RBIs

I miss the nesn pre game show

Here's Kevin Kennedy's bright spot of today's White Sox Vs Red Sox matchup

If the Yankees sweep the Double-Header today and the Sox lose, the Yankees will be just 6.5 games back. If Ortiz misses any time, the Yankees will retake the lead

Eric Karros noted Paul Konerko as the bright spot for the White Sox.

Well, it's not like Kennedy is wrong. With the offense being erratic like it has been, taking the most productive hitter out isn't the recipe for success. There are still 60+ games to play. A 6 game lead isn't anything to rest easy on with that much season left.

Even so, my main point being is that how is that a bright spot for this matchup? Its only a bright spot for the yankees

I hope that we dont miss any big moments in this game because Fox wants to show Bonds' ABs

There's a lot of time. Which means that this team is bound to find its swing consistently again, and hopefully that will be able to weather the Yankees storm. The Yankees have a good team this year, but they aren't as good as teams past and much more prone to losing (obviously).

Also, I think the majority of offenses in baseball are better than they were 2 or 3 years ago. There aren't teams doing huge dumps of players who are going to be a sure sweep. Even the best teams in the AL hit hard skids against teams like the White Sox or Royals or A's or Orioles... this team should start getting those runs in soon enough.

I can't stand how Fox does their baseball coverage. Pick a f***ing game and go with it... don't pick four and then f*** with my ability to watch my team on mlb.tv.

That is when you want to K if you are going to make an out, WMP. The guy just has no baseball IQ. It wouldn't surprise me to find out he was a drooling idiot.

You remember when he made that error that lead to a HR, in 2006? (Beckett's debut at Fenway) He made a routine catch the next play, and everyone went wild. The press asks him about his error, and he says, "Man, the fans are into every play, they went crazy when I made a catch."

He was dead serious when he said it.

Not even a little surprising.

After today’s missed catch, Pena made back-to-back plays on fly balls to end the inning, prompting a mock cheer from the sellout crowd. Pena didn’t get the sarcasm.

“That was incredible,” he said. “It gave like more energy to me. They’re happy here, whatever you do.”

This is possibly the most historic moment in the history of the game. I think 25 years from now, you'll be the only person to remember that Julio Lugo doubled on the 21st of July, in the 3rd inning of a 2-1 game.
