Do the Drew and Lugo signings rank in the top 10 worst free agent signings of all time?

They both signed long term deals. If Drew wins the MVP in his 3rd year any prediction now would be pretty short sighted.

did I just lay out a scenario where Drew wins the mvp? Ha!

It IS too early to tell however.

MUCH can be forgotten based on how the team ultimately does, in terms of how history will judge.

no, Matt Clement and Carl Pavano are in there no doubt. Neagle and Hampton certainly. Lugo and Drew might be in the conversation, but give it time. I think Schmidt and Zito could very well be there soon.

Drew has no power and the "speculation" now is that his shoulder has limited strength. Who said as much in ST? Thank you, thank you.

This team = cooked.

Come on guys with the Drew/Lugo talk. Lugo's been coming around and all year even when he's not hitting Drew has been getting on base well above average. Give it a rest.

when he's not hitting? You mean, when he is breathing, right? Cause he isnt hitting.

It wasn't like he was Mark McGuire before the bad wing.

he was a guy with 20-30 homer potential. But you put him in Fenway and then sap his lead shoulder of strength and voila, you have a crappy average, crappy power guy whose best asset is that he will take tons of pitches and get his share of called strike 3's and walks.

I held out hope until the last week or two. Lugo's been better and that scares the s*** out of me because he still looks ordinary on a good day.

Drew must give good head, I see no other reason for the love.

I appreciate the optimism, and for the most part I agree with you. They do both show signs of being servicable, but the quest for the linedrive hitting/HR hitting #5 hitter goes on. Drew could be good as a #2 or #6. Lowell is frustrating at times, as can be Youkilis.

I'm really thinking that the Sox might be aggressive and deal Youkilis. He might be the most valuable of their available position players. He could certainly help an NL offense with his on-base skills and ability to hit for average. It would open up a power position on the defensive spectrum and free up the logjam. Lowell is the other option, but I don't know how much trade value he has. I'm a big Youkilis fan, but a power 1B bat feels like what this team needs, so his name has to be an option.

He's not hitting flyballs that are falling just short of the track. He's hitting ground balls and linedrives. I have only seen him turn on a ball and drive it maybe 10-15 times this season.

lift is provided by your front shoulder. If your front shoulder is injured, you wont have any lift. Hence the entire swing is top hand and top handed swings create top spin liners and grounders.

That makes sense. But fenway has little to do with it.

well, he has had his moments where he has had good lift. The Fenway factor means that even on the odd occasion that he gets good lift, he still might not hit it out due to the very deep RCF fence thus limiting him further.

Hence my point that he's not hitting many of those balls anyway. My point was that he is hitting groundballs and linedrives. I agree that the shoulder will limit his lift, but I don't think we've seen any lift all year, so it is hard to tell how much effect Fenway has had so far. I would argue very little based on what I've seen. He probably has a hit chart somewhere.
