I always thought his swing looked a little awkward. It kind of looks like a little leaguer whos bat is way too big for him so the bat is drags through the zone.

How the hell is papi hitting .320ish with a .420 OBP (not exact)? He and Manny have to be one of the weakest set of guys with .400ish OBP in the 3/4 spot. Traditionally they have had tons of power, but recently it just isn't there. Not much anyone can do about that, I suppose. The hope is that it will come back. Last year at this time Papi had 90 RBI.

Theyre also hitting well above .300 with RISP and RISP/2 outs. It really boggles the mind

I have no problem with kicking the FG. It appeared that it was unnecessary since the runner was going to score, but he made the safe bet. I have no problem with it.

1 hit over 77 pitches. Not bad. I hate and do not understand the walks. He seems to get ahead pretty quickly and then miss the zone badly. His strikeouts appear to be timing rather than movement related.

 

Very very good pitcher. If he can eliminate the walks (and their tendency to score) he would be near the top of the league as his ERA would drop. My guess is that when he starts the season next year with a clean statistical slate we will get a much better statistical picture of who he is. He has many absolutely dominant innings, and then occasional high-school meltdown innings. Of late, the former have outweighed the latter.

I don't know if I would keep the pitch count down tonight for Dice. He had one bad inning, but his fastball is zinging and he is looking much better. He threw about 20 more pitches than desirable in the 1st, which is like a warm up session. Let him stretch it out. The guy is used to it and built for it. Push him to 120. We need this game badly. THEO needs this game badly--to get the calls for a huge trade to subside a bit and remind folks that we have a good team.

Youkilis is now 3 for his last 26 (one extra base hit), pre-all star break. Recently he hasnt been working the count and swinging more agressively
