I agree; of the lack of power in the three to five holes in the Sox lineup, I'd put my money on Manny bust'en out in the second half. Especially with the news on Ortiz this AM.

would that be the news that papi needs knee surgery? cause i heard that somewhere and dont know if its true or not

I understand he twisted his right knee in NY last year and is expecting to have surgery in the offseason. Seems consistent with his lack of power, and the explanaition (lower body issues), but that is not coming from an official source - Herald.

Papi is saying his lack of power is cause of the pitches he's seeing and not the knee. he's getting everything up and away

Because players get older?

I know you hate advanced statistics, so just watch Manny Ramirez. Do you see the same player he was back in 2006?

I am not disagreeing with you that he has not looked like himself at all this year. However, to me it's just hard to believe that he could drop off so much from last year. Maybe I am in denial, maybe its just hard to watch the best hitter ive ever seen regres so much, I just still think that Manny has a lot left, and will improve greatly in the second half. I guess there is always the possibility of a Bernie Williams type decline, which you would have to think has happened here if you think Manny's second half will duplicate his first half.

I do like advanced stats myself, I am just too lazy to look them up. That's why I like reading posts by yourself, and ORS among others. However, I don't need advanced stats to tell me that Manny has sucked so far this season, or that J.D. Drew isn't the player we thought we were getting. I do watch most every game and can get a sense by just watching on how players are doing.

I know he's had an off year, but I really have to think it's sort of a prolonged slump more than anything. He's been incredible for how many years in a row and for him to just fall off and not get it back doesn't seem like a huge likely hood. It seems like it should be more of a gradual decline. And I don't think age is the culprit, either. There are plenty of good players out there who are reaching their 40s now.

Call me optimistic but I bet he gets out of this funk before too long.

I tend to believe that also. I am in the camp which says Manny Ramirez is one the best RH hitters in the game, and will come out of this. He doesnt look old, I think he is just in the midst of the worst slump of his career. I still say he gets to .300 30 HR 100 RBI.

Look's like Manny is back to being Manny again. He has 6 homers and 19 RBI's since the allstar break, which is a great thing for this team obviously. Now if we could only get David Ortiz going...

i am new at this so if someone is reading this help me out

First, back away from the keyboard. This can all be a little overwhelming.

Second, punctuation is your friend, get to know it better.

Third, David Murphy has a long face. :dunno:

Looks like Manny's started to care after the ASG. The man is an enigma, I swear, but when he decides to try hard, he's still one of the most feared hitters in the game. Let's hope he continues to rip apart the D-Rays.
