Watching the Red Sox hitters for most of the season under the direction of Dave Magadan has been very pain full. In keeping in mind this man (Magadan) was fired by the Padres in mid season last year because of inability to have the their hitters to produce, the sox hitters aren't just making average pitchers look like Hall of famers, but border line ML pitchers look like Hall of famers and was only signed because of his frienship with francona and when you add francona's inability to manafacture runs by play station to station offense you get the result that the Red Sox result are giving.

They are hitting the ball, and they are getting on base. They just aren't hitting when people are on base. When the problem is hitting with runners on, I'm not sure giving away outs to advance runners, ie manufacturing runs, is the best thing to do.

6th in BA, 1st in OBP, 7th in SLG......right now the problem is timing.

You don't to give outs to manafacture runs, more hit and run, not holding the speed players on bases (more stealing) I believe that the Red Sox where seventh in runs scored coming in into todays game, that's not acceptable, a hitting slump doesn't last this long. Believe or not the high OBP thing may have something to do with this, by this I mean hitters are taking too many pitches, taking pitches that they could drive and some are just happy taking the base on balls.

The last two night are a good example of why the Red Sox would be in Deep trouble when they go in the playoffs.

This seems like a pretty well-played game against a quality playoff caliber team. 2-2 against the highest scoring team in baseball is pretty good, no?

I'm assuming you mean tonight and last night.

Last night they had to deal with a lefty that they've never seen before. The Red Sox ALWAYS suck when that's the case. Always. No hitting coach is going to fix that.

As for tonight...they ran into Jeremy f***in' Bonderman. How much can you ask for? I know they had their chances, but I can understand the lack of offense tonight (as much as it frustrates me).

And a damn good Tigers' pitcher, no?

Its a good played game, but the point still the same, lack of hitting and the last two night proved that.

I can understand the lack of offense against good pitching, but they had 12 consecutive scoreless innings. That is not good.

They had many chances of scoring runs, again this team isn't going to go far in the playoffs.

Scaff-

To blame David Magadan for the Red Sox not scoring runs is simply ridiculous. The Padres may have fired Magadan, but they aren't scoring that many runs this year with a different hitting coach.

The big problem is that they aren't hitting for power. They are 7th in SLG. Is it Magadan's fault that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are having sub-par power years? Both guys are stars in the majors and have been around for several years. To use a hitting coach as an excuse for guys like that is simply rubbish.

As for the hit and run and stealing...do you really think that the Sox would be scoring a ton more runs if they hit and run more? That approach can lead to double plays as we saw the other night. There isn't a player on this team other than Lugo or Crisp that you want stealing every time up. How does it help the Red Sox if Dustin Pedroia takes off more often.

Really Scaff with Youkilis' emergence as a star, despite your insistance that he was a bench player I'd say your credibility is pretty much shot.
