There's an NBA thread and a BoSox34's Celtics thread, so this might get merged, but...

Draft is in a few minutes. Any mock drafts?

Obviously Oden is going 1 and Durant 2. After that the questions begin. I'm going with Horford 3rd, Conley Jr. 4th, and Jeff Green 5th to the Celts.

By the way, Joakim Noah looks ridiculous. Kinda like Captain Hook.

Ok, the 3rd pick is in, so this draft has officially begun. Horford to Atlanta. Not sold. With 2 rounds the NBA draft is all about need not best available, and they need a PG. Sure, this allows them to trade someone, but is there really a market? I'm not so sure.

I actually disagree. I think Al Horford is better than any 4 that Atlanta has. He's a fantastic player and I think, even though they are forward loaded, its more small forward loaded, so he won't have alot of guys in his way, per se.

Oh, and I highly favor the trade for the Celtics in getting Ray Allen. Yeah they lose the #5 pick, but they didn't want it, so use it and get another proven player. Great scorer, and will bolster the Celtics offensive attack. So now, teams won't load up on Pierce because Ray Allen will torch them if they aren't careful. I like this move by Ainge, I give him credit for this.

Yi Jianlin to Milwaukee. I heard that his camp said he might not show up if Milwaukee drafts him.

Me personally, I'm not REALLY big on drafting foreign guys, but I never look at video or anything of the foreigners. We'll see though.

I don't like the trade. This is the deepest draft to come around in a long, long time and Ainge traded our pick, plus Wally and Delonte, for an older player. Don't like it. They should have drafted a big guy.

And lol @ Milwaukee drafting Yi.

I agree about foreigners. For every Nowitzki, Gasol, or Parker, there's 10 Tskitishvili's.

So you would have drafted Jeff Green? I like the trade, just think about that lineup... Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Big Al, and whoever your PF is (sorry slipped my mind...LOL)

EDIT: Thats a potent offensive starting lineup. But, this is coming from a HUGE fan of the best offensive team in the NBA for the past 3 years.

Yeah...but by rooting for Phoenix you know what a lack of defense can do. The Celtics have nowhere close to the Suns' offense obviously (the Suns can get by because of how dominant they are offensively), and mix that in with the Celtics' total lack of defense...

I hate it. I'm seriously thinking about finding out if Ainge is in Boston right now.

I agree he's better, but look at the margins, because in a 2 round draft that is what matters. Is the marginal improvement from Horford to Player-X bigger than the marginal improvement from Conley to Player-Y. I think Conley is the bigger upgrade.

The Magic got it worse than anyone. Vazquez not signing and staying in Spain was the biggest waste of a 1st round pick in a long time.

Yeah, true. But their horrible FO is hell bent on Joe Johnson being their PG. granted he's not a PG, but they seem to think he is. So they are always making questionable moves, but I like this pick.

Don't forget they pick at 11. With their two lottery picks, they were probably planning to get a point guard and a big man. Acie Law will likely be there at 11. I'd rather have Horford and Law over Conley and whatever big man would be available at 11 (Likely Noah).

Edit: Ok, not Noah.

Well that's still a great combo at the 2 and 3...could bolster you guys offensively.

And on a side note, we have improved defensively every year at the defensive end. But that isn't draft related,

Agreed. I like Horford ALOT better than Noah. And true, I forgot about Acie Law. But rumor has it that GS wants to get up there to pick him and are willing to trade Monta Ellis...thats a VERY big statement about Acie Law. Monta Ellis is a sick player. We'll see though.

Allen-Pierce-Jefferson will be a sick scoring combo, add in Rondo and Perkins and I think we're in good shape. I don't love trading the #5 for an older player but it'll be exciting to watch next year.

Good point. I would rather take Horford + Law that Conley + Big-Man-Without-a-Name. However, they don't need a 4, so the Conley + Other-position-of-need, might be a bigger overall improvement.

I think the Noah to Chicago pick is a great fit. That team gets up and down the floor, and an athletic big man with a well rounded game is a great acquisition.

EDIT: This is why Steven (ph?) A. is a mega tool. He thinks they need a slug to provide balance. I say go with what works and tweak it.

Law to ATL. Good pick.

I think the Celtics will easily win 47 games with Jefferson, Gomes, Pierce, Allen and Rondo. Especially in the Eastern Conference. Jefferson is going to be a star this year, let's not forget that he had an emergency apedectamy in nov. but from dec. on he was an All-Star player. With three All-star calibur players in the starting five, along with a strong supporting cast with Gomes (a very underated player who is an automatic 13, 8, 4) and Rondo who showed signs of becoming special late last year, this team will be a force in the East.

Let's not forget about Perk who had Plantar Facisitous last season that limited his game. He was a very solid player two years ago when he was starting games for the C's. Losing Delonte does hurt, but I think he is at best the 6th man on a championship team so he was definitely expendable IMO.

ATL made out great with Horford and Law.

Noah is eeeeeh in Chicago. They really needed low post scoring like they were saying and he can't really give much. I think he'll turn out fine there though.

i think the C's with their 2nd round picks need to take a PG and a PF/C

PG: Pruitt, Koponen, Sessions, Brooks, Green, Dowdell, Brown

PF/C: Fazekas, Lasme, Davis, Gasol, Gray, Visser

What are the specifics of the trade?

Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau and Fred Jones to New York

Channing Frye and Steve Francis to Portland
