Clemens - 4.86 ERA, $28 million

Tavarez - 4.50 ERA, $3 million

It's a good thing for sheer entertainment value alone

I do love watching Tavarez pitch, especially when there is a double play and he points to everyone

Add to that the fact that (i believe) the sox have the option on Tavarez next year for around $3.5mil.

1. On BDD they had the MLB power rankings.

I don't usually pick from BDD but occasionally they have good links.

Anyway:

1. Angels

2. Red Sox

How do people think these teams compare? Personally, I feel pretty confident taking the Sox over the Angels. I like the top part of their rotation better and like their hitters better. The Sox even compete with the Angels in terms of a bullpen this season, particularly the back end of the pen.

2. How do people compare Pedroia and Cano? Who would you rather have? I love just about everything about Pedroia and think he is the superior player.

The Angels have a better starting rotation right now. If Schilling comes back and pitches well then I say it's a wash.

Pedroia will be a far more steady player than Cano will be, but Cano's ceiling is higher. Then again is floor is lower, too. I dunno, I like the consistency Pedroia gives you but I wouldn't call him the superior player.

Well, the Sox looked pretty damn good in their sweep of the Angels earlier this season. If I remember correctly, that was the series that really got this team going. I take the Sox over the Angels 10/10 times. Like you said, all aspects of our pitching can compete and beat that of the Angels, and our lineup is much more superior to theirs.

Of course I'd rather have Pedroia. So far he's shown to be a better defender/hitter/passionate player. Then again, I'll have to wait to see more, but right now I'd take Pedroia for the rest of the year.

We didn't face Weaver or Colon in that Fenway series.

I haven't heard much about Colon, but he seems to have been injured all year. Am I wrong or is that the case?

They did face John Lackey and Ervin Santana...yeah, I know the latter sucks away from home. He's having a bad year too I guess. Weaver hasn't been TOTALLY special either. He's a great pitcher, but with the exception of ERA, Matsuzaka has him in every other category (not to mention he pitches in a tougher offensive division). Dice-K also has only 3 more walks than Weaver in 28.2 more IP. Between Beckett and Lackey, I'd take Beckett. Between Matsuzaka and Weaver, I'd take Matsuzaka. I'm not going to go any further because Tavarez is the best 5th starter in baseball, and Wakefield is erratic as hell with his consistency. If Schilling comes back and pitches well, I think it puts the Sox well over the top.
