ya except branch would be playing for $800k where Asante will be playing for $8mil. I know he wants a long term deal but he also thinks he's worth Clement money (i don't think clement is worth that) for one solid year of play....if he's serious about the holding out then it's the end of him here in NE

This is where some sports players just really get me ticked off. "Oh me oh my how the f*** can I survive on $8 million for 1 year?? That to me is an insult. Fine if you wont pay me more money... I'll just sit out for as long as I can, which will cost me money but at least Im making a statement"

Randy Moss, one who is known by the media and some fans as a jerk... took a f***ing $7 million pay cut just to be a Patriot. Shut and play the game, if not have fun trying to make a statement as the Pats cruise on their way to the playoffs

The difference between what Randy Moss has done and what Asante Samuel is doing is that Moss, prior to being traded from the Raiders, was playing out an eight-year, $75 million. Asante Samuel's last contract was about $470k per year. He's been worth far more to the Patriots than they've had to pay him for. He wants the security, and guarenteed money, of a long term deal. If you guys were being held back from making money you could get and deserve, you'd be pretty pissed too, no? I know you guys wouldn't be content with your employer paying you an amount of money if another was willing to pay you more than twice as much. Be pissed at your team for being so damn cheap.

Um he's being paid $8 million this year after which he'll be a free agent if he so chooses to leave where he could also make some big money

Richard Seymour was in the same predicament but he kept his lips sealed as he and his agent worked on a long term contract. Samuel has been bitching since before the 2006 season was over. He wants Champ Bailey money or even more, its foolish to think that he is at that tier

The economics in football are screwed up. If Samuel blows out his knee, they cut him for nothing more than a signing bonus.

Well, Samuel didn't even show up at Hill's funeral, so I'm pretty sure you can forget about him showing up at all this year. I doubt the rest of the team will allow him to even sniff the lockerroom.
Posted
What the f***? Samuel didnt even attend the funeral for his teammate? Hope he gets booed at home, that is how much money is important to him? He has the disregard to not even show up at a funeral where his team will be at.

Ya I agree with you guys, he is being a baby and you have to know by now afterplaying in NE for a few years this is not how you get extended. This is how you get sent out of town and the Pats replace you in a week and play like you were never there. Although at the CB position we are kind of thin. I hope they can find a few corners that can stay healthy all season and play decent ball...

I don't think it's a smart move at all...but since the window for people at speed positions is so small in the NFL can you really hate him that much for wanting to get his money guaranteed?

If he had put a second season like this up, I would have paid him. Last year was his only great season. He'll be making a boatload more this year, and if he has another year like he did last year you can bet your bottom dollar that the Patriots would pay him what he wants for the '08 season.

But, I can really hate him for not attending Hill's funeral. That was just wrong. I doubt we'll see him back on the team solely for that reason...as in, I think that not attending one of your teammate's funerals is the only way you could cause unrest in the Patriots' lockerroom.

samuel,a D back, outscored the entire wide receiver corp in the playoffs last winter.

this league is built on playmakers,we were short a couple last year and ended up watching indy play the bears for the superbowl that rightfully shouldve been here.

samuel should take the 7.7M

that would be smart

he has no leverage outside of pointing to Kraft and BB and reminding them that we were 3 yards short of winning the superbowl last year and it was their genious and greed that allowed branch to walk...

i think troy brown can play corner still cant he??

he wont be here next year at all

If they rade him and get a 1st rounder I won't mind really. But they will need to bring in some DB's. Not sure if there are any out there for trades at the moment. Anyone got any ideas for a contigincy plan if they deal Samuel?

Send Samuel to the Bears for Briggs? It would work out for both disgruntled franchised players...

The only problem is where would he start? Seau, Bruschi, Vrabel and Thomas...these guys obviously aren't going anywhere. As much as I would love Briggs, I just can't see it happening.

Maybe we should do a straight up swap with them. I don't know how much they'd be willing to give up, but if we could get Ricky Manning Jr. out of them or something...

I don't know. Just a thought. The Bears, with the Ravens, are probably one of the only teams that don't need any defensive upgrades.

I doubt it...briggs is pissed off (more so) and he wants more than he's worth

I disagree...the pats have put their "value" on him and they usually don't budge off that no matter what.

no they dont budge unless its seymoure who is indeed more valuable than samuel

however

if they budged and rewarded a big time player in branch then we win last year

no doubt in my mind

last year we had 0 wideouts by the way

this year we're not so vulnerable at d back but still.....

I mean, the guy's being unreasonable. He's not worth what he wants...he's just not. He's getting what? A (roughly) $7M raise from last season? Then if he puts up those numbers again, he may make even more...

Look, I'm all for paying the man, but he's not worth more than Champ Bailey. We would have won it last year if we budged for Branch, but if we budged for Branch we wouldn't have been able to make half of the moves we made this off-season. Make no mistake about it, this team will contend for a few years past 2007.

they have a system and god bless em they stick to it

it cost us a title last year

it may cost us a title this year if we have the duane starks of the world playing dback for us

and again

we'll be right there battling it out in the forseeable future but i hate the fact that the business end of the game directly effects the people performing for us on the field

and for the record

randy moss doesnt do much for me

we did get some talent, lots of talent, in the wide out department but randy moss is a f***ing jerk off who will either get 1200 yrds and 15tds here or

he will be a gigantic pain in the balls who gets DNPCD quite a bit

talent wise hes unreal but reche caldwell outperformed him last year

its always the wideouts and the dbacks that are insane

Posted

Yeah, he's a jerkoff. But he'll be on his best behavior here. I really think he's all about winning and with s***** quarterbacks throwing to him in Oakland mixed in with the fact that I think he did actually shut off when he wasn't winning made him worse than Caldwell this year. I really think we're going to see the old Randy Moss this year. His agent has said that he's seen a drastic change in Randy's attitude and comfort level compared to the past couple of years.

He also said he was going to skip voluntary workouts but he surprised everyone and showed up anyway. Corey Dillon was a little f***er before he came to the Pats as well, and he turned into a more respectable person on this team. I think Randy will come to play and he'll showcase that talent, while understanding what kind of team the Pats are. I do understand the apprehension though.

I hear that if Samuel doesn't come back, they're going to try to move Eugene Wilson to CB with Hobbs, and have Merriweather play SS with Harrison at FS.

Why are they moving Harrison to FS?

theyre infinitley more prepared to lose samuel than they were branch

it would just be nice to have this guy inked up and happy for a couple of years

these guys have eyes and see what the nate clements and dre blys of the world are making

the pats understand his value as well offering him 7.7M which i think is pretty good money

i get a kick out of these guys talking about pressure

feed a family of 4 on less than 55K per year and then discuss pressure sitiuations with me
