the reason why I wanted Lowell's helmet tested. Yeah' date=' that doesnt look wrong or nothing. Jesus.[/quote']

Lowell on WRKO later w/ Dave O'brien:

"I learned that when I was in the minors with the Yankees, that running people over in the basepaths is legal when you're trying to break up a DP."

Yes I know it was serious, I winced everytime they showed it on replay, just adding some humor to a tough situation is all...

Don't worry, I don't think you're a heartless bastard

The base-path thing was legal and almost worked (he had the ball where pedroia didn't when arod hit him in the balls) the eyechart hit was just terrible, i don't think lowell realized what happened till he saw the replay (he knew he hit him but not in the back of the head) lowell is the consummate professional and this was clearly an accident....let's hope eyechart gets back quick. I heard it's a concussion, fractured wrist, and sprained neck...on the DL tomorrow

No matter what he will always be a member of the 25 in 04.....get well soon

From the Globe:

"I never had a problem with him before," Cano said. "Today he threw his elbow."

But Torre said it was a clean play. Lowell, who spent his first four professional seasons in the Yankees organization, insisted he meant no harm.

"They taught me how to do it," he said.

I don't get what the big deal is with this. Going back to dirty plays...

Trying to slap the ball out of defender's glove, calling for a ball to distract a defender and elbowing a guy in the nuts after he's thrown a ball to first base are dirty plays.

Running over a defender who's in the base path who still has the ball is no different than running over the catcher standing in front of home plate. No difference.

Cano needs to grow a pair.

Yankees fans are just trying to justify Arods behavior by claiming one of ours is dirty. Mike Lowell is one of the nicest men on this planet and doesnt have a bad bone in his body. He doesnt whine and complain to the media, and he doesnt argue balls and strikes.

Arod's Rap sheet:

Slap incident....which to this day I still can believe he did.

The elbow....He had to actually make an extra effort to pop up and lunge towards Pedroia to even make contact.

The HA play....which is disputable whether or not it was a cheap bush league play. The rule reads:

(MLB Rule 7.08(B))

Any runner is out when --

He intentionally interferes with a thrown ball; or hinders a fielder attempting to make a play on a batted ball;

Rule 7.08(B) Comment: A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not.

If, however, the runner has contact with a legally occupied base when he hinders the fielder, he shall not be called out unless, in the umpire’s judgment, such hindrance, whether it occurs on fair or foul territory, is intentional. If the umpire declares the hindrance intentional, the following penalty shall apply: With less than two out, the umpire shall declare both the runner and batter out. With two out, the umpire shall declare the batter out.

Interpret it however you want within that language that the rule is written, but I just dont think a RedSox player would ever do that, and if he did I would be embarrassed about it. If Crisp did something like that we would crucify him for it the same we would for Arod.

The thing about Lowells play is that it is perfectly legal. Was it a very aggressive play? Yes....but didnt the Yankees expect some kind of retaliation for Proctor and the bean ball war that occurred the day before? 99.9% of the time Mike Lowell does not do what he did to Cano......but its not like there was no justification for it. Albert Belle steamrolling Fernando Vina was much worse because there was no justification for it.

What justification for the Lowell play was there? Seriously, that play was absolutely dirty. This is not an ARod is dirty so Lowell is too type thing. This is a normally good guy who made a very dirty play.

This was not a dirty play, period. All deuce did was lower his shoulder and try and run through the guy (cano made a good play) who had the ball in the basepath. If cano had already thrown the ball then it's a different story.

It's legal. He learned it in the Yankees' minor league system. Cano got in his way. If Cano didn't want to get flattened he should have tagged him from the side.

I won't be complaining if a Yankee does that to one of us so long as there is no intent to injure...just like the Lowell play.

Just heard on Dale N Holley that Gammons (couldn't find the piece) wrote an article talking about how Larry Bowa pulled Cano aside the day after this play and said something like "you do know why he did it, it's the right thing to do?" and Cano responded "ya, i understand i should do the same thing if i'm ever in that situation"

Ha ha ha ha you're joking right?

Lowell just made an agressive, but legal move. But why should you complain? It didn't work and Cano got the DP.

I'd say you are just calling this a dirty play in return for us bashing A-Rod. Get over it. Not our fault the Sox play fair and have good baserunning manners.
