Yesss Sox win! 36-15, season high 21 games above .500

Dare I say 14.5 f***ing games up from the Yankees?? ;)

Beckett showed no rust as he dealt through 7 innings allowing 2 runs and striking out 7. He improves to 8-0 with a 2.65 ERA. He is the first Sox pitcher since El Guapo in 2000 to win his first 8 decisions. All-Star game here he comes

The bullpen continued to step up big in tight situations. Okajima is now 4 for 4 in save opps

The offense did just enough again. How many times is Youkilis going to be the offensive star of the game? He's on a pace to hit over 20 HRs easily

Daisuke vs Byrd tomorrow, Dice carrying a broom with him to the mound?

I've been here off and on kilo. Cmon now.

Gotta give jacko props, he was around after the 2004 ALCS (on the BH forum).

I was a whole lot more distraught then. Right now I am more sad than stunned or pissed. The era is over. Maybe a new one will start next yr, but that all depends on what capacity George runs the team (hopefully he leaves it to Cashman and we do this right). But this season is over.

Yeah, you were....A LOT MORE. The era was over 6 years ago. Way to hang and please continue to do so, "good times and bad" bro......kinda like a Red Sox fan.B)

A new era will be in line in about 2-4 years.

I don't believe in curses, never did, seriously. But my brother likes to bring up the "Curse of the Mussina" which I enjoy b/c I really dislike him, A LOT!

Theo and Tito are currently enjoying peaceful times.....how strange for them! :D

the bolded part all depends on what capacity George is running the team. I honestly hope Cash stays in place, because even though the product on the field blows, the pipeline looks good. If all goes well, we should have a rotation with 4 homegrown players in it by 2009 and the other may be a guy by the name of Santana. If George fires Cashman and decides he has to go for one more ring before he croaks, then we will be in for another long line of yankee dark days.

And if we have a couple down yrs it may take all those fake fans off the goddamn bandwagon. The ones who are clamoring for Barry Zito and Gil Meche. Sorry, wont buy it.

Long term, we are in some seriously solid shape. Short term, we should have been good. But we got old.

Jacko, I have a question for you. After the suffering you have gone through SO FAR this season (and could very well go through for the rest of this year and next year), what would you do if the Red Sox signed Johan Santana after the '08 season?

I dont think it will happen though. I have a feeling Cashman will be kept on but will get some serious heat from Steinny to make a move. He'll likely overpay for Santana in prospects this offseason and regret it for the next 10 yrs.

Jacko considering it wouldnt be a salary dump... without a doubt the Twins would ask for Phillip Hughes. They wont just accept a package of Chamberlain/Duncan and go along their merry way

they wont get Hughes. But Chamberlain would have to be in it. Chamberlain climbed up BA's list quickly and is now squarely behind Yovanni Gallardo in pitcher to watch for in the minors. He was sitting at 98 in his last start with a few pitches documented to be in triple digits. The guy is dirty. But it would be more than that. Likely he and Horne plus potentially Tabata or if they are willing to wait, get a package of 2 or more of the DSL kids (Urena, Almonte, etc) to go along with it. Either way, it will be too much.

It will be too much for a consistent Cy Young Award winner?

Yes. Maybe it is a change of tune, but I dont want to give up one of the big boys in our minors for anything. Hughes has graduated from that role, but Chamberlain and Betances are at that level. Kennedy and Horne are fast approaching it. I truly think we will be better off rebuilding the rotation with young, powerful arms on the cheap. Getting Santana would be great, but not at the expense of 2 guys who really have filty stuff and look fasttracked to the majors.

Chamberlin right behind Gallardo as a pitching prospect? Easy now. Gallardo is the best pitching prospect in the minors, and there are several between him and Chamberlin. He's good looking prospect, but he's far from #2 in the minors.

Exactly ORS, kid is what still in single A? I dont see him being above Homer Bailey and the Sox's own Clay Bucholz who should be in Triple A any day now

EDIT: After the Sox have gone 3-0 in the absence of Ortiz, he'll return tonight to help Dice get the sweep down. Man this is just what I love about this team. Players go down but yet the team thrives on (Sox went 10-4 while Beckett was on the DL)

Gallardo is promising, and I don't know much about Chamberlin or Bailey, but I do know that Clay Bucholz is a better prospect than Gallardo... and not by a little bit.

As good as Buchholz is, Gallardo is probaly the only one (with no MLB experience) id rank ahead of him.

Just a quick list of my pitching prospect rankings (including guys like Hughes and Lincecum):

1. Lincecum (SF)

2. Hughes (NYY)

3. Gallardo (MIL)

4. Buchholz (BOS)

5. Bailey (CIN)

6. Miller (Andrew, DET)

7. Kershaw (LAD)

8. Bowden (BOS)

9. Slowey (MIN)

10. Miller (Adam, CLE)
