My second gamethread of the season

Boston (34-15) vs. Cleveland (31-17), Monday, 7:05 p.m. ET

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (7-0, 2.66 ERA)

The 27-year-old right-hander still is chasing Roger Clemens' 1986 club record of 14 consecutive wins starting the season, but has never beaten the Guardians. In two career starts against Cleveland, Beckett is 0-2 with a 13.97 ERA.

CLE: LHP Jeremy Sowers (1-4, 6.29 ERA)

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2006/08/25/Ki8xOvvw.jpg

After beginning the season 0-4 with a 7.13 ERA in his first eight starts, Sowers had his best start of the year on Thursday against the Royals. He went seven strong innings and allowed one run on six hits -- all of them singles -- while walking one and striking out one. It was his first victory in 10 starts, dating to Sept. 5.

Ill leave the mojo up to the experts. All I have to say is...Welcome back, Beckett, and keep pitching like you were.

Most Guardians runs against Beckett came off of homeruns. Im thinking a quality start just as long the sox dont forget how to hit against the southpaw Sowers

Okay, Manny got to DH last night. Fine, we won and in hindsight it doesn't look so bad. But GODDAMN IT TITO, PUT MANNY WHERE HE f***ING BELONGS. It's not like he does much in left field anyway. He listens to music in those weird sunglasses ear phones, takes pisses in the monster and waves to the fans. Unless playing in CF, Wily Mo in the OF is useless. Manny knows how to play the monster and gets the ball back into the infield 10x faster than Wily Mo does. I love Wily Mo, but he should be the DH. Manny's making $20 million more or less; he can play his damn position. Goddamn Tito.

ortiz out again' date=' that cant be good[/quote']

Great move...

Even if Ortiz could go today, keeping him out of the lineup is the smartest move the Sox could make. Wily Mo can hit lefties and we're far from a must-win game. Youk has been raking, Lowell has been hitting, Manny's turning it on...we can afford to be without Ortiz and make sure he's TOTALLY healed for later in the season when his bat may/will become indispensable.

I like the move. Manny could rest those knees every once in a while.

is Beckett pitching the same way as he did before he went on the DL - more curves and off speed pitches ?

Overheard on Mike and the Mad Dog today:

"The people at YES wanted to treat the strike three call to Abreu on Saturday like the Zapruder film."

"Yankee fans have always thought it was divine intervention that they'd get these great breaks- Jeffrey Maier, so on. NOW... they're sending video to the league office to get some breaks. If that's the reason you're losing games- you stink."
