My major investment if I were Theo Epstein, would be Joe Nathan.

That way, the Red Sox can slide Papelbon into the rotation, and still have a dominant force at the back end of the bullpen.

I like this idea. However I think our rotation for the future already looks pretty promising (Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester, Buchholz, Bowden), but this move would give us a lot of flexibility. I don't know if Papelbon's heart would be in it as a starter though. :dunno:

I'm not counting on either Buchholtz or Bowden to be in the rotation by 2008. If they are, we can keep one in AAA to develop further, or trade him to fill holes elsewhere.

Papelbon will be fine in the rotation. I don't expect a regression, because he isn't pitching in the 9th. He has pitched effectively in the rotation, before.

Roto says Manny Delcarmen will take Gabbard's slot on Boston's 25 man

Pawtucket- 14 games (2-2, 5.03 ERA)

19.2 innings, 22 Hits, 13 Runs (11 ER), 1 HR, 8 Walks, 28 Ks

why would we send down gabbard after today and leave hansack up?

I missed the 9th inning, did Papelbon look that bad?

nah, gay bloop singles

Figured it out:

@ NYY:

Wakefield

Tavarez

Schilling

@TEX:

Matsuzaka

Wakefield

Tavarez

vs. CLE:

Schilling

Beckett

Matsuzaka

They'll use the off day to their advantage, skipping Gabbard's slot and pushing everyone up a day. Beckett goes back to his slot between Schill and Dice.

That actually makes sense. Thanks CD. I forgot that Beckett's DL stint was retroactive to the 14th. If he pitches where you say he does, that's 15 days from when he was placed on the DL, making him eligible to pitch on the 29th. Just in time for the series against the Guardians and that potent offense. Thank God.
